Tumblr has made me a beta admin for the new “community” feature. Would anyone like to join my community to test out the beta and provide feedback? (It’s a generic writing themed community)

This is it, the best news story (from BBC news):

Ok, so here is the croissant that started all this mess:

When asked about what kind of animal might it be, the woman said: "It's this, oh, what is it called... A lagun!"

The devil works fast, but The Krakow Animal Welfare Society works faster:

They already made a merchandise with an illustration of the lagun - they posted information about it on Facebook on Tuesday evening and by the Wednesday morning everything was already sold out.

My university professors are so delighted about this story that they are writing tons and tons of limericks, moskaliks and lepiejs (those two last genres are very popular, ridiculous and humorous types of short poems, in last decades popularized by Wisława Szymborska) and posting them on official Facebook pages of our university departments, and I am dying of laughter.

Important update on the story: owners of cafés and bakeries in Kraków realized that this wonderful idiocy that took over the country could bring them profit and help animals, and started selling croissants labeled as laguns: i.e. Massolit Café & Bakery is sending 10% of income from selling laguns to the Krakow Animal Welfare Society. Thankfully laguns are selling like hotcakes and bakeries don't plan to stop making them, so the story that started and could quickly die as just another seasonal nonsense transformed into a tool for helping small, helpless, vulnerable creatures, far less dangerous than vicious lagun.

This is how cyptids get started.

It’s also *exactly* the kind of story behind the invention of new pastries. If there’s some little change on the ingredient level that can make a “lagun” distinct from an ordinary croissant, then a new pastry will have been born, complete with fanciful cookbook-ready lore.

Collared doves aren't the most exotic or beautiful birds, but I'm sure they make a great meal for local raptors, and I think that's wonderful

Anonymous asked:

I finally found you. Er, more specifically, I wasn't aware that you were so easy to find. Admittedly, I was never a big fan of cookie clicker. I never got enjoyment out of it and (as you are WELL aware) it started a Wave of games that maybe didn't add much to the industry, I don't think. (Maybe I'm wrong, though- again, I haven't really looked closely at it.) So y'know, I never looked closely at it, and I'm still not going to. Idle clickers just can't hold my attention and I don't want anything to do with them tbh.

However.

Our parents- well, they said they loved us, but my mother did nothing but scream at my little brother for misbehaving, and my father would yell at him if he laughed- treated him terribly. My mother cites his autism for the reason why he didn't talk for the first few years of his life but if I had to guess, it was probably more because he was punished for noise.

Genuinely? Genuinely. Thanks for keeping my little brother distracted from the traumatic, scarring things happening around him in his youth. You don't know how much comfort it brought me to stare off into the horror and just to turn and see how he was doing to find him making like. A shitton of cookies, without a thought in the world.

And no matter what anyone else says about any other part of your game, no matter how much shit anyone like me would want to give you for the admittedly hilarious trend it started.

Still- your game brought a little boy who had a very niche, very unfortunate passion quite a lot of joy. While the world fell apart around him, he had Cookie Clicker.

There is nothing in the world I would want more than my brother having something he can enjoy without being yelled at, or without it being taken from him. There is nothing more precious to me than my little baby brother.

And I mean that.

So thank you. You've saved my brother's life and in turn saved mine, and I cannot be more thankful.

Communities closed beta is here

Hello again! We’re back with an update on Communities, a big idea we had last year that we’ve been working on steadily since then. We’re abnormally jazzed to announce that we’re beginning a “closed beta” phase of this new feature, which means many of you will get to play with it soon!

We want to build this whole thing together, with as much input from all of you as possible. We’ve read and re-read the feedback from our previous post, and we’ve been surveying and interviewing people about this idea for a few months now. But it’s time to open this up even more for hands-on testing.

We’ve already begun reaching out to most of you who interacted with our previous post, as promised, with a survey asking whether you’d be interested in helping (check your email!). Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be using the results of that survey to narrow down who we’d like to help test Communities in these initial batches.

The process is looking a bit like this:

  1. If you received a Communities survey email from [email protected] to your registered Tumblr email address, fill it out! If you’re interested in helping us in this beta test period, that’s your way of potentially getting early access. If you did not receive an email with the Communities survey, don’t fret! Communities will be rolling out to more people as we expand our testing.
  2. We’ll go through the results and choose a diverse range of community ideas to gather a wide array of feedback.
  3. Selected testers will receive a second survey with more detailed questions about their proposed community. Very practical stuff, like the name, title, and description, whether it should be public or private, the About page contents, its own community guidelines, and more.
  4. We will create the new Tumblr community on your behalf using the information supplied. We’re building the tools that will let people create and edit communities themselves, so eventually you’ll be able to change them without needing our help. But for now, we’re creating and editing them for you, as needed.
  5. After we’ve created the community, you’ll be made its first admin. Everything from here on out is up to you – Tumblr staff won’t be in your community (unless you invite us, of course). You’ll be able to invite anyone on Tumblr to your community. However, your community will have a population cap to start, limiting how many people can be in it and invited, as a way of keeping this beta test somewhat contained and manageable for us. We’ll be able to raise that population cap for communities that are growing and if we want to test further in that direction.
  6. And throughout, we’ll be asking for feedback, both in some special communities for everyone in the closed beta, and via more surveys and the Support tickets we receive.

This closed beta version of Communities is far from finished, and that’s part of the reason we want to start opening it up to more of you for feedback. There are a lot of rough edges and known issues, but we think it’s far enough along that it’s usable enough for testing. We need feedback in order to feel like we’re building the right thing.

The very first public community is called “Communities Feedback” for this reason! We want everyone helping us test out communities to tell us about it, so people in this closed beta will be in there by default. We want to use that space to be more public and real-time about new pieces we’re building, bugs we’re fixing, things we know are broken, and answers to common questions. There is an additional, private community for community admins, to help shape how administrating and moderating these spaces will work. And if you don’t want to use those spaces, you can always use the “Feedback” category in our Support form.

Stay tuned for more, and keep an eye on that Communities Feedback space if you’d like to see how things are changing over time.

My boyfriend just woke up, mostly still asleep and told me “don’t worry, it’s getting better” in a heavy, American accent, which is unusual for an Australian man.

“Why are you American?” I asked, to which I got:

“Sorry, it’s getting better” in a stereotypical posh English accent.

“Why are you English?” I asked, amused.

“What is he normally?” He managed to ask.

“He? You’re not anyone else, you’re you.”

“Ugh, me” was the last thing he said, in a right proper Aussie accent before he fell back into proper sleep.

Bitch just thwarted a ghost possession by judging his accents

if there's one thing we can learn from this booping experience it's that we need to give people notes and interact with them for tumblr to be fun and thriving

"we need the boop button to stay" no we don't. tumblr already got lots of buttons to press every day. look at those beauties right here ↘
