Not really a fan of making these types of posts, but

My kid found a severely injured month old kitten in the street a couple weeks back. Ants and flies over her, exposed drying bones severe. Took her to the vet. Immediately took her to surgery (god bless my vet he is the kind of person that restores my faith in humanity). Managed to save her and her leg. She even walks somewhat normally these days and she couldn't even get up when we found her. Photos a couple days and post surgery:

You guessed where this is going:

Now, vet's been paid since back then. Problem is, I live paycheck to paycheck (generous expression), and have no such thing as "emergency funds" or "savings" or even "credit card". But I couldn't let this krechur on the street and clearly nobody else was gonna help as according to the vet's estimate, the injury was at least several hours old (and again, the whole ants already eating her business)

If you'd like to help me out and could spare a buck or two so that I can cry less about this unexpected punch my bank account took, I'd eternally appreciate it and that's no exaggeration. You can drop it in my incredibly active ko-fi:

(more convenient than a paypal address I think)

Thanks for reading anyway. Take care of yourselves ❤️

Dad loves you and feeds you. But he is also dumb and feeds you a wonderfully done wagyu steak. You are 3 days old.

Okay, but check out this video from mid-May 2022 of a Kestrel Dad who just kept piling up voles and mice beside his babies when the mom was injured/killed/mia’d by owls…but then watched one of his babies just swallow a lizard and went “OH. I can feed them small food!” and learned to tear it apart!

EDIT: There’s a not-zero percent chance that this could be the same dad???????? The source is the same–Robert E Fuller–but they could be different birds.

UPDATE: Not only has Mister Kes learned to feed his chicks all on his own…

….the three chicks who were taken out of the nest for intensive care after the mom disappeared were put back in, and he just started feeding them, too.

He’s a single father of six who does not possess the instincts to feed even one of his offspring, but he learned and adopted that behavior without difficulty and is now hunting and providing for six kids all on his own.

I may have underestimated how many of those eggplant seeds were going to sprout. Ah well, if those all actually take after transplanting, I guess I'll just have to give a few away as there's only so many eggplants one can eat.

Congrats on the many future eggplants! (I seeded a tray of mint and so far, have murdered all but one. Clearly, my talents lie elsewhere.)

It’s ok you can make bread and I can’t bake for shit, so we balance out each other. Also don’t despair, I’ve been an habitual plant killer until now (I managed to kill mint), but either I grew slightly better at this or growing stuff from seed instead of already grown plants is easier to me, weirdly.

Also to be fair my previous apartments were… not ideal for plant health, I think.

A Man Who Lost Four Fingers Has Built Highly Articulated Prosthetic Fingers, All Controlled By Wrist Movements.

Engineer Ian Davis built his own mechanical prosthetic when his medical insurance did not cover the cost. His prosthetic functions without batteries or electricity. In early 2019, Davis lost four digits on his left hand due to a work accident, prompting him to create the prosthetic

No electricity?

Repeat: No Electricity?

100% mechanical? No circuits, no silica, no rare metals? Just lever action and muscle movements?

Ohhhhh this is a work of Art.
