In 2016, only 14% of the U.S. workforce were offered paid parental leave by their employers, but that number has been improving, especially in forward-thinking tech companies. A benefits survey in 2018 reported that 35% of respondents had paid leave in the case of a new child being born. Microsoft, in fact, may be leading the way; in a recent policy change, it required its suppliers that had 50+ employees to offer paid parental leave – a cost the company has said it will help with.

Here are six companies in the San Francisco Bay Area that currently offer their employees terrific paid parental leave plans. They’re leading the way towards a future where companies truly embrace their employees’ need for a work-life balance when it is most urgent.
