How to Submit a Request

If you see adverse items of information on your TransUnion credit report that resulted from trafficking, you can take these steps to remove them.

Step 1: Write out a letter with specific details

To request the removal of adverse information from your TransUnion credit report, you need to submit a letter with supporting documentation to TransUnion.

In this letter, identify the adverse items of information that are on your credit report as a result of the trafficking.

You can write the letter yourself, or you can use this sample letter from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Step 2: Gather proof of identity and trafficking victim determination documents

With your letter, you’ll also need to include proof of identity and a trafficking victim determination. A trafficking victim determination is documentation that you are a victim of trafficking issued or signed by a federal, state, local or tribal governmental entity.

Please only submit photocopies of proof of identity and trafficking victim determination documents. Do not send originals, as they cannot be returned to you. Examples of acceptable documents include:

Proof of Identity Documents (Provide 1)

  • Driver's license
  • Government-issued ID
  • Passport
  • Utility bills
  • Social Security card
  • Birth certificate

If you can't provide proof of identity from one of the documents above, you can call us at 833-982-4057 to verify your identity over the phone.

Trafficking Victim Determination Documents (Provide 1)

  • Certification letters issued by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
  • Child eligibility letters (issued by HHS)
  • Continued presence (issued by HHS)
  • T Visas (issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services)
  • A bona fide T Visa application
  • U Visa with a Form I-918 Supplemental B indicating the victim experienced human trafficking
  • Restitution orders
  • Crime victim compensation
  • Criminal record relief court orders
  • Civil suit decisions related to human trafficking
  • Documents issued by state government agencies (such as Notice of Confirmation as a Human Trafficking Victim in NY State issued by the NY State's Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance)
  • Self-attestation signed by or with an accompanying document that includes a signature by a:
    • Federal, state or tribal governmental entity
    • Non-governmental organization or human trafficking task force that is authorized by a governmental entity to make such a determination
    • Consumer advocacy group or a court representative

Step 3: Submit your documents by mail or online

To submit documents by mail

After you gather the necessary documents from Steps 1 and 2, mail everything to our dedicated mailbox for trafficking survivors:

TransUnion
P.O. Box 159
Woodlyn, PA 19094

To submit documents online

After you gather the documents from Steps 1 and 2, log in to the TransUnion Service Center or create a free account if you don't already have one and follow these steps:

1. From the dashboard, select "Dispute"

2. Then select "Start Request" and agree to the terms

3. Use the "Dispute" button next to the item you'd like to dispute

4. On the account dispute page, select the option that best matches the reason for your request. There is no human trafficking option, so select the reason you believe best applies to your situation.

5. After you select a reason, you can add an option comment. Adding a comment is not required.

Do not write any personal information in the comments.

For example:

  • Medical information
  • Social Security number
  • Human trafficking information
  • Abusive language

This information may be shared with lenders, or other third parties, so we can process your dispute.

6. Next, upload up to 5 documents including:

  • Your letter with specific details
  • Proof of identity
  • Trafficking victim determination
  • Other supporting documents

7. Submit your dispute

What happens after you submit your request?

Your request will be processed within 4 business days of receipt of the information. You’ll receive further communication(s) about the status of your request, including whether we need additional documentation to process your request.

If information is removed from your credit report, we'll provide you a free copy of your updated credit report.
