Not seeing casting icon

Hello,

So regularly I don't have any issues connecting my phone and my chromecast but sometimes the little casting icon doesn't appear to connect my phone to my TV. I've tried the generic troubleshooting ideas but can't figure this out.

Hi @Maryajune,

I'm sorry that you have to go through this situation. I understand how annoying it can be when the casting icon on your phone disappears and you can't connect to your Chromecast. Let's troubleshoot this together.

Here are a few things you can try:

  1. Restart Your Devices: This is a classic troubleshooting step for a reason! It can often resolve temporary glitches. Restart your phone and your Chromecast by unplugging it from the power source for a few seconds and then plugging it back in.
  2. Check Wi-Fi Connectivity: Make sure both your phone and Chromecast are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Double-check for any typos in the network name or password.
  3. Update Apps: Ensure you have the latest versions of the Google Home app (for Chromecast setup) and the app you want to cast from (e.g., YouTube, Netflix). Outdated apps can sometimes cause connection issues.
  4. Forget and Reconnect Chromecast: Sometimes re-establishing the connection can fix the issue. Open the Google Home app, tap on your Chromecast device, go to Settings > Forget network, and then reconnect it following the on-screen instructions.
  5. Check for Chromecast Firmware Updates: While not as common as app updates, Chromecast firmware updates can sometimes improve functionality. You can usually check for updates automatically through the Google Home app.

Please try those steps and let me know if you were able to fix it.

Regards,

Josh
