New Chromecast epic fail

My 5yo Chromecast is fine, never a problem but thought it might be time to upgrade.   Big mistake.   Brand new CC HD with Google TV cannot cast apart from very low res, constantly glitching, and repeatedly disconnecting.   I will refuse to pass this piece of junk onto anyone else, it's in the bin.   Only glad I kept the old one, no frills, does what it says on the box, no problem.   CC with Google TV is a massive scam.   Get your house in order, Google.

Hi @rcd,

I understand your frustration with your new Chromecast with Google TV. It's definitely not the experience you were hoping for, especially considering your older Chromecast works perfectly. While it's understandable to be upset, there might be a few things you can try before throwing it away:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Restart Chromecast: A simple restart can sometimes resolve glitches. Unplug the Chromecast from power for about a minute and then plug it back in.

  2. Check for Updates: Make sure you're running the latest software on the Chromecast itself and the Google Home app you use to control it. Outdated software can sometimes cause casting issues.

  3. Network Check: Ensure your Wi-Fi network is stable and functioning properly. Weak or congested Wi-Fi can lead to buffering, low resolution, and disconnections. Try restarting your router if you suspect network issues.

  4. Factory Reset: If none of the above work, a factory reset might be necessary. This will erase all your settings and data on the Chromecast. Here's how to perform a factory reset (caution: back up any important data first):

    • Open the Google Home app.
    • Tap on your Chromecast TV device.
    • Look for settings related to "Factory reset" or "Reset device."
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm the reset.
  5. Contact our Google Support: If even a factory reset doesn't fix the issue, contacting our Google Support is the next step. They can provide more specific troubleshooting based on your situation and may even offer a replacement if they determine the unit is faulty.

I hope this helps! While your initial experience wasn't ideal, hopefully troubleshooting or contacting our Google Support will get your Chromecast working properly.

Best,

Brandon.
