My camera will notify when a cat is walking around in the yard. How do you fix it. It is supposed to only notify for people!?

Hi @Amylouwho3,

I understand it's annoying to get notifications for your cat when you only want to see people. You can definitely adjust settings to minimize notifications for your feline friend. Here's what you can do in the Google Home app:

  • Adjust Motion Sensitivity:

    1. Open the Google Home app and tap on your Nest camera.
    2. Go to "Settings" and then "Events."
    3. Under "Seen events," you'll find "Motion sensitivity." Adjust the slider to a lower sensitivity to reduce notifications for smaller movements.
  • Define Activity Zones:

    1. In the camera settings, navigate to "Activity Zones."
    2. Create a new zone or edit an existing one.
    3. Exclude areas where your cat frequently walks, like most of the yard, by drawing the zone around specific areas you want to monitor (like the driveway or front door).

I know it's not ideal, but some users have reported some success with the 'Animals' toggle under 'Seen events' in the Events section. It might not be foolproof, but it's worth a try.  Keep in mind not all cameras has those options.

We're actively working on improving pet detection for Nest cameras, and your feedback is valuable. In the meantime, these adjustments should help you get fewer cat alerts.

Best Regards,

Brandon.
