National Hate Crime Awareness Week “It is vital that we all have an understanding of what hate incidents are, what hate crimes are, and how to report them. We feel that national hate crime awareness week provides a pivotal opportunity for educators to review their policies and practices to ensure that every child and young person can feel safe and celebrated in schools and colleges. If schools and colleges cannot #educateOUTprejudice and do not challenge prejudice when it occurs then how can those targeted have faith in the value of reporting incidents whenever they occur later in life. It also means that we are sending a message to the perpetrators that their behaviour is acceptable and thus there are no consequences resulting from their negative and destructive actions. Why should “targeting children” EVER FAIL to cause ANYONE to “lose ground”?! In a moderately sane and decent society, “losing ground” would be the LEAST of the concerns facing anyone SEXUALLY “targeting children.” I’m sure I would get banned from LinkedIn (an interesting consideration in and of itself) for simply stating what EVERY decent human being KNOWS that these miscreants DESERVE. If Western Civilization allows the normalization of pedophilia, then it SHOULD perish! The Supreme Court needs to revisit the applicability and scope of capital punishment. DeSantis is CORRECT about this issue. Also, we should do away with protective custody for prisoners who have committed sex crimes against children. Let them do their time in general population. https://lnkd.in/ggrtmPBm Bullied Student is Now Dead, Oklahoma’s Anti-trans Legislation and Schools Inaction Contribute to Death Nex Benedict a nonbinary sixteen year old student died after being attacked at school in the bathroom. The school failed Nex by not preventing the bullying that Nex faced for the last year after coming out as nonbinary. The school did nothing about the bullying that lasted at least a year. Also, it helps to have inclusive policies and safe spaces. This helps to make a climate that is safe for all students. This sends the signal that bigotry, harassment, bullying and abuse will is not acceptable under any circumstances. Further, the school let Nex down by not sending Nex for medical treatment after the attack. This could have definitely saved Nex’s life. Nex’s family while showing some level of support. Yet, didn’t grasp the full danger that trans children are in by the very nature of being trans. While eventually taking Nex to the hospital, the family had no idea for a year the bullying that Nex had suffered. Families must step up and learn about Trans family members and not just rely on the family member to educate them. There are a wealth of resources available and most are online. The danger in the last few years for youth in particular has increased. The anti-trans legislation by the state of Oklahoma barring transgender students from bathrooms, changing rooms and erasing transgender people from the conversation promotes hate. It helps people demonize transgender people as other. Transgender people are simply people that are born with a difference. We need to stop demonizing other human beings. We wouldn’t lose innocent children that get beaten up at school like Nex. Children that just want to do what other children do. Nothing more, nothing less. New DOE Civil Rights data highlights cause, echoes strong voices calling for equity, and re-exposes the harm of historical, racial inequalities -particularly in educating Black children K-12. However the new data could also hint at "Scope Creep in Inequality". It highlights an increase in behavioral data gathering, law enforcement referrals & in school arrests of kids with ADHD, autism, social or emotional learning disability. Does the DOE Civil Rights Data Collection Report (accidentally or intentionally) identify a New "Inequality" in Education? Or, ....has the man's love of inequality breached confine?
