MY OPINION: ARE PUBLIC SCHOOLS READY (and WILLING) TO FIGHT HATE SPEECH AND BULLYING? A new UNESCO blueprint focuses on tackling hate crimes highlights the role that schools can and should play? Are public schools in Nepal ready and willing to play this role? Can they do that? #hatespeech #diversityequityinclusion #bullying #respect #unesco #agenda2030

🟠 School-related gender-based violence is a major obstacle to universal schooling and the right to education for girls. Globally, one in three students, aged 11–15, have been bullied by their peers at school at least once in the past month, with girls and boys equally likely to experience bullying. ➡️ Stop school based gender violence now! #NoExcuse #FAWEZI23 #16DaysOfActivism2023

I’m wondering if in the future we can see more milkshake and less Keep it Real content coming out of NZ. Do you remember the NZ Keep It Real Campaign from 2020 – if you haven’t seen it – check out the 4 episodes on You Tube, they’re still relevant. Or visit the Govt site - https://lnkd.in/gH4_Ng5E The NZHerald has just reported that the new government is planning to remove and replace #relationshipseducation. They reported that the coalition “intends to refocus the curriculum on academic achievement, including the removal and replacement of the #gender #sexuality and #relationship-based education guidelines.” Could this happen in Australia? Absolutely it could. Be vigilant people! As #sexualityandrelationshipseducators we are #empowering children. We are enabling them to understand how their bodies work. We are enabling them to understand what respect for self and others looks like and how it works in their everyday lives. What consent as well as sexual consent looks like. What the hallmarks of a caring, positive and supportive relationship are and how to identify red flags in a relationship. Yes, this is absolutely the responsibility of #parents – it is also the responsibility of #schools and #teachers – this is a path we can all walk together. Without these open conversations happening at school and in the home, we revert to the days of sex and sexuality being spoken of in hushed terms, if at all; of being embarrassed about what’s happening to our bodies and our emotions. The research that shows - that young people delay their first sexual experience and are more likely to participate in safer sex if they have the knowledge that empowers them to do so – is still current and relevant. We’ve worked so hard to get to where we are – Be Bold, speak up and support the right of all young people to easy access to sexuality and relationship education. (UNESCO) And if you're as passionate about this as we are – join us at itsjustasec.com

📚 Education is a powerful tool, school should be a safe place to learn, and every child has the right to do so without fear, bullying or harassment. On this International Day of Education, we would like to revisit our blogpost on sexual harassment and the need for a whole school response. Not too long ago an Ofsted review highlighted the normalisation of sexual harassment in schools. It's crucial to break the silence and create a culture of awareness and respect. Our MENgage and EmpowHER programs contribute to this shift by addressing the root issues and fostering understanding among students, encouraging them to challenge gender norms and learn about healthy relationships. Check out our blogpost to learn more about these issues and how our programs align with the Education Inspection Framework. Let's empower the next generation to create a better future. 👉 To read more visit: https://lnkd.in/ei4YTatx #Ofsted #Education #HarassmentsInSchool #SaferSchools

Parents, schools, and educators must take responsibility and unite in collective action to combat the alarming rise of gender-based violence. Prioritising teachings on mindful living, civic values, and media literacy at all educational levels is crucial. Additionally, providing dedicated counsellors who offer regular sessions on mental health and overall well-being is essential. By equipping young minds with the necessary tools, knowledge, and support, we can counteract the harmful effects of toxic masculinity, creating a safer and more inclusive society for all. Let us empower the next generation to navigate their relationships responsibly and eradicate violence against women. #schools #educators #schooleducation #mentalhealth #gender #society #highereducation #mindfulness #mindfulliving #civiceducation #medialiteracy

National Hate Crime Awareness Week “It is vital that we all have an understanding of what hate incidents are, what hate crimes are, and how to report them. We feel that national hate crime awareness week provides a pivotal opportunity for educators to review their policies and practices to ensure that every child and young person can feel safe and celebrated in schools and colleges. If schools and colleges cannot #educateOUTprejudice and do not challenge prejudice when it occurs then how can those targeted have faith in the value of reporting incidents whenever they occur later in life. It also means that we are sending a message to the perpetrators that their behaviour is acceptable and thus there are no consequences resulting from their negative and destructive actions. Schools and colleges play a vital role and by #Usualising, #Visibilising and celebrating the lives and experiences of minority groups and those who face discrimination. They help dispel the many negative stereotypes that are promulgated by silence, invisibility and deliberate misinformation." This Wednesday April 10th, is International Day of Pink. It’s Worldwide recognition against bullying, discrimination, homophobia, transphobia, and transmisogyny. On this day, you’re invited to celebrate diversity by wearing a pink shirt (or anything pink!) and organizing activities in your workplace, school and communities. Where did it originate from ? It was started in Nova Scotia Canada, by two straight high school students, who saw a gay student being bullied because he was simply wearing a pink shirt ? They intervened as they wanted to do more to prevent homophobic and transphobic bullying in their school. They purchased two pink shirts and wore them. A few days later they also got almost everyone else at their school to arrive wearing pink, standing in solidarity for anti-bullying. The result was that their entire school took a stand against bullying of any type, particularly related to homophobia and transphobia. The International Day of Pink campaign has continued to grow. It is now an international anti-bullying campaign that thrives in schools, workplaces, and communities. The International Day of Pink and the conversations, awareness, and acceptance that stem from it are making a real difference in the lives of queer and trans youth. So this Wednesday, wear pink 🩷 Inspire acceptance 🩷 and spark some conversations !
