The first Trans+ History Week CIC starts today and is a week-long reflective period to learn and celebrate the momentous and millennia-old history of transgender, non-binary, gender-diverse and Intersex people. It’s a week to build on and celebrate the work that the incredible Trans+ archivers, historians, LGBT+ History Month (Schools OUT) and content creators are already doing, launched after consultation and with support from some of the UK's largest LGBTQIA+ organisations, trans trailblazers, elders and activists. Sign-up to the newsletter to receive Trans+ History every day of Trans+ History Week: https://lnkd.in/dErAeV_t Why should you mark and amplify this date? A society that’s been taught half a history is destined to do harm. A community that doesn’t understand its own past cannot learn from the wisdom of our trancestors. It begins on May 06 2024 - the 91st anniversary of the Nazi raid on the world’s first trans clinic. It's the week they tried to erase Trans+ people. It's the week we remember Trans+ and gender-diverse communities through history. Knowledge of our past, is fundamental for our liberation, and so the week is held ahead of Pride month and a critical general election in the UK - it’s a chance to look back, so we can move forward. Events A main event takes place on May 07, in London. It will include a live podcast recording with Netflix’s Sex Education cast members Felix Mufti and Anthony Lexa, plus a networking and drinks reception. A live poetry evening will also be celebrated on May 10, at Common Press. https://lnkd.in/g-MuGBmx https://lnkd.in/edziwKhw You may also see one of their bill boards up and down the country. #TransHistoryWeek #Intersectionality #Usualise #LGBTQIA #THW24 #LGBTplusHM #educateOUTprejudice

There are just 7 days left until the Government closes its consultation on its harmful and exclusionary draft trans guidance for schools and colleges. The Supportive Schools Campaign webpage has links to guidance to help you submit a response to this draft guidance and additional guidance for young people. https://lnkd.in/eqnceth7 You need to respond here by 11.59pm on 12th March 2024. https://lnkd.in/eFUA-3wa We advise that you: - make your responses individual and unique, using your own words where possible. - Include examples of how the guidance would negatively impact trans young people - share your own experiences of being trans at school or supporting trans students. At Schools OUT we believe that every LGBT+ person should feel safe, seen, and thrive in education and beyond; which is why we have joined with other groups in the Supportive Schools Campaign and why we urge you to complete a response to the consultation before the deadline on 11.59pm, 12th March 2024. Who are the supportive schools campaign? We are an alliance of charities, human rights organisations, and education practitioners who strongly oppose the Government's exclusionary and unhelpful proposed "Guidance for Schools and Colleges on Gender Questioning Children" for England. We believe all children and young people have the right to education free from discrimination, and LGBT+ young people are no exception. The proposed guidance, which remains in draft, seeks to deny the existence of transgender pupils, discouraging them from coming out and being their authentic selves, and could lead to young people being forcibly outed to parents and teachers. This approach will erase decades of progress in making schools places that value difference and reject discrimination. It hampers teachers' ability to tackle bullying and ultimately risks causing more harm and exclusion of trans young people. Schools desperately need guidance that offers practical advice on creating school environments that support trans pupils to thrive. We are calling on the Government to listen to LGBT+ youth and inclusive educators, withdraw the guidance and rethink their approach.
