Many are rightfully concerned that publicly accessible #EVchargers will continue to be disproportionally deployed in high-income areas where #EV ownership is highest. If this trend persists, lower-income communities, particularly those in multifamily housing (MFH), will be left behind as technology advances, missing out on EVs' many benefits, and we don’t think that’s fair. That’s why RMI collaborated with Atlanta, Phoenix, and Portland to understand how we can ensure that #charginginfrastructure is accessible to everyone, regardless of income. We identified charging solutions tailored to the #transportation needs of MFH residents. Check it out: https://bit.ly/3VhDHrl

As our planet heats up, staying cool becomes a necessity, not a luxury. But traditional ACs are major energy guzzlers and climate polluters. Thankfully, The Global Cooling Efficiency Accelerator is at work! This collaborative is developing a framework on performance metrics for next generation ACs to empower manufacturers to design super-efficient units and consumers to make informed choices. The result? More comfortable, cooler homes, a healthier planet, and significant cost savings. Learn more: https://bit.ly/45guyE3

This hurricane season, energy resilience is more important than ever. With NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration predicting 17–25 named storms, communities in Florida, Puerto Rico, and Texas face frequent power outages that can knock out air conditioning, water pumps, and other key equipment at businesses, hospitals, and homes, exposing people to deadly extreme heat. But where power lines often come down in high winds, solar-plus-battery microgrids are less vulnerable and can keep power flowing, lower emissions, and support economic development. With solar and battery prices at historic lows and new government incentives available, there's never been a better time to scale up these technologies: https://bit.ly/3VqLrZk 📰 Miami Herald op-ed by RMI’s Michael Liebman and

RMI is now registered as an official entity in Africa’s largest country, Nigeria! 🇳🇬 As the most populous nation in Africa, Nigeria has seen a steady increase in its energy demand. With an estimated 65 million still having no access to electricity, renewable energy systems, such as the solar minigrids RMI is helping implement, could broadly extend electricity access and spur social and economic development within the country. Since 2017, RMI has supported Nigeria in increasing its access to clean and reliable energy through holistic energy planning, along with enabling local economic development through efficient and productive energy use. Building on these successes, RMI has registered a local entity in Nigeria, in order to scale our work in Nigeria and across Africa. None of this work could be possible without our brilliant and passionate team on the ground. 🚨 News flash: Fossil fuels are not serving us well anymore. When we look at renewables, wind and solar are the cheapest and most efficient forms of energy on the planet right now. “There’s so much room to become more efficient… Most of the discussion on energy security is to secure supplies of energy, but there is very little acknowledgment that reducing demand for energy also helps with energy security,” RMI’s Daan Walter tells Bloomberg. This #WorldEnvironmentDay, we’re drawing connections to highlight the importance of land use reform. By promoting better-located, less car-dependent communities, we can solve the nationwide housing shortage while significantly reducing pollution. Discover how these changes can benefit our environment and future generations: https://lnkd.in/eSG5T-pU #GenerationRestoration

US utilities incurred $3 billion in losses in 2023 by running coal plants when cheaper, cleaner alternatives were available. About 96% of these losses were from plants controlling both generation and distribution. Should consumers bear these costs? Some regulators are questioning this, The New York Times reports: https://nyti.ms/458AfUo
