About us

Amazon is guided by four principles: customer obsession rather than competitor focus, passion for invention, commitment to operational excellence, and long-term thinking. We are driven by the excitement of building technologies, inventing products, and providing services that change lives. We embrace new ways of doing things, make decisions quickly, and are not afraid to fail. We have the scope and capabilities of a large company, and the spirit and heart of a small one. Together, Amazonians research and develop new technologies from Amazon Web Services to Alexa on behalf of our customers: shoppers, sellers, content creators, and developers around the world. Our mission is to be Earth's most customer-centric company. Our actions, goals, projects, programs, and inventions begin and end with the customer top of mind. You'll also hear us say that at Amazon, it's always "Day 1." What do we mean? That our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon's very first day - to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and focus on delighting our customers.

May is Global Month of Volunteering (GMV) here at Amazon. During May, tens of thousands of Amazonians will come together to volunteer for causes they’re passionate about to positively impact the communities where our employees live and work. 👏 Last year, Amazon employees from 51 countries participated in GMV, supporting more than 1,200 organizations and volunteering in 4,500 events. This year, Amazonians are participating in a variety of volunteer initiatives – from home food delivery services and back-to-school donations to hygiene kit building, literacy tutoring, habitat restorations, and more. We employ more than 1.4 million people across dozens of countries, and we believe our employees’ passion, ideas, and volunteer efforts can make a positive impact on our communities. Amazonians, make sure you are signed up for a volunteer event! ✅ What causes are you passionate about? 🔽 🧡

Why do we call our Amazon Web Services (AWS) employees “builders”? Because they code? Not quite (plus, not all AWS employees code). It’s because builders like to invent and reinvent, they have their ear to the ground to listen to customers, and they’re motivated to continually improve and expand what’s possible. And that’s what our AWS employees do: innovate to provide world-leading cloud technologies that help more organizations and individuals build solutions to transform industries, communities, and lives for the better. Last month, our builders got together at our HQ1 campus in Seattle for an AWS global meeting, which included a CEO address by Adam Selipsky, an awards ceremony, and a fireside chat with the co-founders of AI animation startup, Krikey AI. Thank you to all of our builders out there! We’re so excited about what you’re up to! 💻 👏

More than 60% of sales in Amazon’s store come from independent sellers – most of whom are small and medium-sized businesses. In fact, when you look at the numbers from the last year alone, they speak volumes: 💰 Independent sellers in the U.S. sold more than 4.5 billion items, averaging more than $250,000 in annual sales. 💥 And 10,000+ sellers surpassed $1 million in sales for the first time. 👥 Hundreds of millions of customers purchased from small and medium-sized businesses. 🌍 Over 330 million items were exported by U.S.-based sellers to customers in 130+ countries globally. 💼 Independent sellers employed over 1.8 million people across the U.S. We're dedicated to empowering these small business owners at every stage of their journey. Through powerful tools, global logistics, brand building resources, and AI innovations, we're fueling their growth and unlocking economic opportunities nationwide. This year's Small Business Empowerment Report is a testament to the incredible success of the entrepreneurs selling in Amazon's store. But we know that photos of graphs can sometimes be boring, and our followers love it when we post photos of dogs. So, we’re using our ‘small’ Pupazonians to help us deliver some highlights from our Small Business Empowerment Report. https://amzn.to/3wiL7Ch What is your favorite takeaway?

Have you ever seen a heavy-duty electric truck? We’re talking 18-wheelers. Big rigs. No? Well, if you’re in Southern California, you might start seeing them soon. We’re rolling out nearly 50 Volvo Group VNR Electric trucks to haul cargo containers and customer packages. Curious about the details? ⚡ Collectively, they’ll travel more than 1 million miles a year with zero tailpipe emissions. ⚡ With up to 275 miles of range, these #EV trucks can travel as far as many popular consumer #EVs on a single charge. ⚡ They’re packed with safety features like active collision mitigation, blind-spot detection, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. With their impressive power, significantly lower noise levels, and ergonomic cab design, it’s easy to see why drivers are so excited about them. Keep on truckin.

Not all heroes wear capes...some wear cat T-shirts. Meet Tom Scholl. Tom is very serious about two things: 1) internet security and 2) cats. As an Amazon Web Services (AWS) VP and distinguished engineer, Tom's job is to suss out the sources of unusual traffic spikes to help fight against cyberattacks to keep the internet a safe place for all of us. 🐱💻🦸♂️ Experts say his work at AWS has made a dent in a decades-old internet safety issue that affects everyone online. And he has a rare vantage point, given that AWS connects with nearly 5,000 networks total, in 184 locations globally, as of March 2024. His adjacent obsessions with both customers and cats have manifested in a series of internal cat-themed names for software projects that he has worked on during his 13 years at Amazon, all tracked in a “cat-alogue”, of course. 😉 Click the link to take a look at the amazing work he does to fight internet villains every day. ➡️ https://amzn.to/3xvxFek
