Nest thermostat not reaching desired temperature

colelaw

My old thermostat had 4 wire colors: blue, white, yellow, red. The blue wire was hooked up to the spot labeled “G” and all other colors matched up with their labeled spots. When hooking up the nest I followed the instructions exactly.  I am noticing that my house is not getting to the desired temperature and says it will take 2+ hours to get to the temperature I set it to (only a 2-3 degree difference). I am wondering if I need a c wire?

Hi @colelaw,

Thanks for posting here in the community. I'm sorry to hear that your Nest thermostat is not reaching the desired temperature. Help's here!

To better understand the situation, I'd like to ask a few questions:

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • Are there any error messages? If so, what are they exactly?
  • Is this a new installation?
  • When was the last maintenance check for your HVAC system?
  • Has there been any recent changes or upgrades to your HVAC system?
  • Does the inconvenience happen on heating only, cooling only, or both?

In the meantime, let's check a few things:

  • Check the Energy History: If you experience unusual mode changes with your Nest thermostat, it might be useful to check the thermostat’s Energy History for more information about the thermostat's previous-day activity.
  • Make sure the thermostat wires are completely inserted into the terminals: Before checking the wires, turn off the power to your HVAC system at the breaker box. Verify that the wires are securely connected to the terminals on your Nest thermostat.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Melany
