Hi EazyMoney,

Sure! The E wire should be connected in the * spot. Here you have a reference on how to wire it:

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Axel.

@EazyMoney

Can you post a picture of the current thermostat wiring here?

If you have the Google Nest Thermostat (the one with the mirror display) then there is a good chance it is not compatible. Only the Learning Thermostat can handle a heat pump with emergency heat. You can choose to not connect the emergency heat option which will allow you to use the Google Nest Thermostat

@EazyMoney

You didn't say which Nest Thermostat you have.

Your picture confirms that the Learning Thermostat is the best choice for you.

My apologies Patrick, I have a Google Nest 3rd generation Learning Thermostat @Patrick_Caezza

This is the thermostat in the app that says it not comparable, but online says it is. The gist of the initial post.

Hi EazyMoney,

Thanks for posting and sorry to hear about this situation setting up your Nest Thermostat.  I checked the photo and used the Compatibility Checker tool, your system is compatible with the Nest Learning Thermostat. Let's try to set it up following the next steps:

  • During the setup please select the option that says "ALREADY INSTALLED" instead of "NEW INSTALLATION"

If we select this one, it should skip the screen where you select the wires you have connected and you can finish the setup.

@Patrick_Caezza, thanks for your support!

Regards,

Axel.

Alright, that sounds good, but where would I hook up the E wire @AxelD . All the rest match. Thank both you and @Patrick_Caezza  for all your help

Hi EazyMoney,

Thanks for posting and sorry to hear the suggested wiring isn't working for you and you're getting hot air instead of cooling . Let's try changing the O/B wire settings:

Nest Thermostat

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Tap your thermostat.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings .
  4. Select Thermostat.
  5. Scroll until you find Heat pump. It should show which wire configuration is currently selected.
    If the O option is highlighted, select B.
    If the B option is highlighted, select O.
  6. To make sure the issue is resolved, test your heating and cooling again.

Nest Learning Thermostat and Thermostat E

  1. On your thermostat, go to Settings.
  2. Select Equipment.
  3. Select Continue and then Continue.
  4. Select Heat Pump.
  5. The Nest Thermostat defaults to an O setting for heat pumps.
    If the O option is highlighted, select B.
    If the B option is highlighted, select O.
  6. To make sure the issue is resolved, test your heating and cooling again.

Let me know how that goes.

Regards,

Axel.
