Netflix casting new advert plan

Hi, I have a gen 3 and now that I opted to downgrade my Netflix plan to the adverts one, it no longer works with ad supported streams.

Will the newer HD or 4k versions work ?

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

 

You're correct. Chromecasts before Gen 3 aren't compatible with the ad-supported tier of Netflix. 

 

However, Chromecasts with Google TV (HD and 4K versions) are compatible with the Netflix ad-supported tier. These devices function differently. They have a built-in operating system called Google TV, and the Netflix app runs natively on the Chromecast itself, which allows Netflix to have more control over the playback experience.

Thanks for confirming this.

It's a shame Netflix don't tell you this on the plan swap page so I could have planned ahead. They also didn't tell me my BT Youview box running a Netflix app would no longer work either so until I get a Google TV (HD) I'm stuck with watching it on a 6" phone screen.
