Some users are experiencing a service disruption affecting aspects of the site, causing gateway errors on reblogs among other issues. Sorry for the continued inconvenience - We’ll get it fixed ASAP.
Leah Taub, Tumblr user and street performer extraordinaire, visited the Tumblr Richmond office! We had a wonderful time hearing stories of her travels around the US while busking this summer, and she was kind enough to play a couple of songs for us!
Whew, it’s a busy day in the Tumblrhood. Here’s another new thing that’s rolling out.
So you’re clicking around on the internet, and you’re reading some great article on another site that is interesting and has nice graphics and / or cool engravings from the 1800s.
And you want to share this article with your friends (your REAL friends, let’s be honest) on Tumblr. So you copy the link and paste it into a new link post on your dashboard, and it comes out looking like this:
Aw, man. Now it looks a lot less exciting. So you end up taking a screenshot of the original article, and posting that on Tumblr as photo post, and linking to the article in your caption. Sigh. Kind of a lot of steps for just sharing an article to Tumblr.
Enter our new and improved link posts. You can now paste a link into a new link post on Tumblr, and (if there are any images for it to pull from) it will pull an image from that article for you.
Much better, right? Enjoy!
One more thing: this is only available on the web now, and you’ll see it in the mobile apps real soon.
You know how Tumblr used to automatically reblog a long text post as a link? That doesn’t happen anymore. So now when you reblog a text post it’ll stay a text post, no matter how long it is. Rejoice!
And since we won’t need it to get around the reblog-as-link thing anymore, we’ve said goodbye to the “Reblog As” button. You know, this guy:
Goodnight sweet prince, you served us well.
This concludes your afternoon PSA about reblogging. Carry on.
We here at Tumblr work hard to ensure you can use your account across a wide range of devices and older systems, but at some point we have to throw our bodies upon the gears and say stop.
Specifically, Internet Explorer on Windows XP no longer provides adequate security measures to protect your sensitive online information from being compromised. Consequently, Tumblr will be soon be ceasing support of IE on Windows XP.
So, if you’re using XP, you’re going to need a different browser. Chrome or Firefox would be our suggestions, personally.
If you’re absolutely committed to IE, then you’ll have to upgrade to a newer version of Windows.
We know it’s a tiny bit of a pain to switch, but your security is paramount.
Have you seen something on Tumblr that violates our policies? Well, we’d love to hear about it—once. Tumblr’s Support and Trust & Safety teams are made up of actual people (Hi! I’m Nicole!) and we read every single message you send us, despite how small our teams are.
What happens after we read a message? We investigate it! Right away. So, when we get another message about the same issue, there’s not much more we can do about it. And when we get 10,000 more messages about that issue, well, there’s still not much more we can do about it, and we have to review all 10,000 of those messages before we can move on to other matters. If you ask your friends and followers to report the same thing that you just did, it makes it harder for us actual humans to address all of the issues that need addressing.
We need vigilant people like yourself to keep this site awesome, but trust that any problems you find can be solved with a single email. We swear it.
Already seen posts from blogs you follow will no longer appear in your For You feed.
Admins and Moderators can now delete comments in their Communities.
