The Tumblr RVA office had an excellent night at The Roosevelt last night with our guest of honor, Marc LaFountain! We took over the bar for the unveiling of their new small plates and many a cocktail and beer, which were picturesque and ideal for Elixr.

T gave us a lesson on crafting the perfect daiquiri (not the slushy kind, the classic, no-flip-flop-wearing-or-crazy-straw-drinking kind!):

Combine in a shaker:

  • 2.5 oz. light rum (or a blend, like 2 oz. light and 1/2 oz. aged)
  • 3/4 oz. fresh lime juice (very fresh - The Roosevelt juices enough for each shift)
  • 3/4 oz. simple syrup, diluted agave/honey (1-to-1 ratio to dissolve) or other sweetener

Fill completely with ice (too little ice will actually dilute the cocktail rather than cooling it) and shake just enough for the shaker to get frosty.

Pour through two strainers (yes, it’s so much better- no tiny ice shards in your drink that melt and dilute) and enjoy!

As always, we had a great time with one another, The Roosevelt staff, as well as Karri Peifer, Richmond.com food writer, who was on the scene for her latest article

Thanks for a lovely happy hour that we stretched well into the evening!

Tumblr Support enjoyed a Star Wars- and race car-themed Tumblr Tuesday outing to G Force Karts, where we played laser tag, raced go karts, & enjoyed some craft beer!

Berny won both his go kart races AND the individual laser tag game, Matt won his rounds of go kart races, and Jim led the red team to victory when we played a teams round of laser tag. Afterward we relaxed with an awesome dinner at Kitchen 64. Fun was had by all!

Leah Taub, Tumblr user and street performer extraordinaire, visited the Tumblr Richmond office! We had a wonderful time hearing stories of her travels around the US while busking this summer, and she was kind enough to play a couple of songs for us!

Tumblr Tuesday: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom at the Byrd, followed by tacos and margaritas at Don’t Look Back. Coworker love.

Tess captured some awesome moments from the July Edition of Tumblr Tuesday!

The weather in Richmond has been hot. Thankfully, this week has cooled a bit and our comfort was increased by downing icy margaritas after enjoying an air conditioned theater all our own for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Even Dominic, who now works in the Tumblr NY office, joined in. I’m certain he visited VA just to come to our Tumblr Tuesday (sorry, NYers)! It was great to all hang out together, especially because we celebrated June’s Tumblr Tuesday in two separate groups.

Many thanks to the Byrd Theatre and Don’t Look Back for your hospitality! We had a wonderful time, thanks to you.

Tumblr Support started off Summer ‘12 with an awesome outing: A Nerd Herd* Segway tour of the Church Hill neighborhood of Richmond, VA.

It’s hard not to giggle constantly on a Segway. You look a little ridiculous, your coworker bffs look a little ridiculous, and you’re all learning how to maneuver something that involves some coordination. There may have been some crashing, falling, and rolling down hills backwards. Needless to say, it’s good that we can laugh at ourselves!
