Y'know, with these AI generators that can do things like imitate celebrity voices, or CGI that can put dead actors in modern movies or make them look 30 years younger...

okay i will admit i enjoyed these three in the like. one scene they were actually all on screen together.
sofia voice shut up and get the fuck out goncharov, i’m gonna fuck your wife now.
I'm just saying, I can't eat eggplant parmesan without thinking about the restaurant scene between Katya and Sofia
SO much gd subtext!
You know you're in too deep when you get mad about a non-existent sequel to a non-existent movie 😆🤣
Okay but like, what's up with the running gag of confusing french and italian in Goncharov's return?
It's not that type of movie. Who even thought of that.
I admit it was funny, and I really, really needed it at certain points, but still.
To be completely fair though, the entire film was real weird. The fact that they went with the decision to make their sequel a slasher film at all was questionable at best. The original was so methodically written and beautifully character driven, and the camera work remains some of my favorite to this day. Goncharov Returns was a good movie on a technical level, don't get me wrong, it hit all the right beats at the right time, the acting was without reproach, and the practical effects were incredibly well executed, but it's an entirely different story than the original, and don't even get me started on the dehumanization of victims of the psychiatric medical system (though I will admit that may be a grievance with the genre as a whole, it's a dishearteningly common trope but god yall didn't have to do my boy Ice Pick Joe like that). Like, I get that they were making this thing way later on (about ten ish years if I'm remembering correctly, off the top of my head I want to say the Goncharov Returns was 83 or 84) and were trying to cash in on the popularity of slasher horror at the time to gain an audience for it but honestly, it wasn't their best call. Goncharov had something of a cult following even then and plenty of people would have eaten it right up.
"Goncharov's Return was a good movie on a technical level" - I hate that you're actually right about this. Because now that I think about it, yeah, none of the production proved distracting.
There's a saying among film editors - "The best compliment you can get is that no one notices your work" - because usually people only notice if the cuts are bad. To be a masterful storyteller is to not pull the audience out
Guys I don’t get why people are comparing Goncharov to Zepotha. Zepotha??? doesn’t even exist??? Like????
I'm just gonna come out and say it -
It shouldn't even qualify as a sequel. With the exception of Abe Vigoda, it has none of the original cast; Zemeckis had no business trying to make a slasher film; Ice Pick Joe shouting like he's the fucking Hulk just ripped me out of a movie I was already falling asleep through; the scene with the goat was TOTALLY FUCKING UNNECESSARY; and they put the only cute character in the whole thing IN A DAMN OLIVE PRESS! 🤬
The fact that TikTok is trying to make Zepotha happen like it’s the “new Goncharov” is so offensive because like, there’s already a new Goncharov. And it’s an 80s slasher film. It’s called Goncharov’s Return (or Goncharov’s Revenge in the European release). Just the height of hubris. Learn your history.
Ok but we all know "Goncharov's Revenge" was a cheap ripoff. It wasn't authorized by Scorsese, it had none of the original cast, it wasn't even the same studio. It was a cashgrab to make a quick buck by using a popular title
Studios: "The writers will have to cave in because otherwise the fans will riot, mad with boredom"
My dude, we created an entire movie and fandom without the input of studios/execs. The writers and actors can go on strike for as long as they need and we will happily support them as we ponder the metaphor of a clock
With such memorable characters as
Lambda Literary Awards has this to say:
“Both timely and timeless. The most inclusive book series to ever be written, not just for children, but for people of all ages.”
Critics rave
“A masterpiece”
“A treasure”
“It’s no Goncharov, but it’s something”
I'm so happy that everyone's enjoying my Goncharov vid
You all like me! You really like me!
It took a while to find, and it’s not the best quality, but I was able to track down at the very least the opening credit sequence to Goncharov
What gets me is Robert DeNiro played the title character and yet Al Pacino gets top billing....
