Sustainable operations
As a company committed to sustainability, we strive to minimise our operational footprint by taking ambitious measures and monitoring progress against clear targets.
We have been placing a strong focus on reducing our own greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and energy consumption for around 20 years. In 2019, Swiss Re was one of the first financial institutions worldwide to commit to reaching Group-wide net-zero GHG emissions by 2050 via the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Through our CO2NetZero Programme launched for operations, in the near-term we aim to reduce GHG emissions on a 1.5°C- compatible pathway, and to compensate 100% of the remaining in-scope1 emissions with carbon removals as early as 2030.
