An update to my earlier post about my father giving the Xerox PARC demo, this is how he turned out some years later, trying to convince the Queen to 'bring it in'. At Bletchley Park Trust, where his father did some computer stuff with a fellow named Turing and others (Tommy Flowers!). (You can tell she's smiling, right?) #happyfriday

Race-Based Medicine: The underpinnings of inequitable care. Thanks and gratitude to Uché Blackstock, MD for bringing this issue to light for public awareness. Quoting from a terrific NIH article, (link below), "medicine is not a stand-alone institution immune to racial inequities, but rather is an institution of structural racism. A pervasive example of this participation is race-based medicine, the system by which research characterizing race as an essential, biological variable, translates into clinical practice, leading to inequitable care." Furthermore, many current structures and teaching practices perpetuate the use of these practices. If you work in health care, engage in health care, or have a curious mind, please take the time to read the article attached and to listen to the insights provided by Dr. Blackstock. Let's work together to improve equitable health care for everyone. NIH National Library of Medicine https://lnkd.in/g6v48dWG

Martin Luther King understood the transformative power of achieving “moral ends through moral means.” From Dr King’s “Towards Freedom” speech at Dartmouth College : #mlk “As you know, one of the great debates of history has been over the whole question of ends and means. And there have been those individuals from Machiavelli on down who argued that the end justifies the means. Sometimes whole systems of government will go out with this theory. I think this is one of the basic weaknesses of Communism. It lives with the idea that the end justifies the means; so we can read Lenin saying on one occasion that," ...violence, deceit, and even lying are justifiable means bringing about the end of the classless society." And this is where nonviolent resistance breaks with Communism and any other system which would argue that the end justifies the means. Because, in the final analysis, the end is preexistent in the means, and destructive means and the long run of history cannot bring about constructive ends. And so the power of nonviolent resistance is that it provides a way for individuals to struggle and to secure moral ends through moral means.”
On May 23, 1962, we welcomed MLK Jr. to campus where he delivered his speech "Toward Freedom." Learn more about the evening and read his speech here: http://bit.ly/3QKvRUf

To combat sudden cardiac death in athletes, we must be evidence-driven. Focusing solely on Black basketball players for advanced screening lacks scientific backing. More study, less stigma is the way forward. And an #AEDinEveryGym. See our ACC statement. tinyurl.com/y5debja5
