"In the face of things that will dehumanize you, the antidote is becoming more Human" - Maryam hasnaa At -tauhidi In a few hours I have the pleasure in speaking at Lake Highland Alumni Association with fellow Black Trailblazers including John Devine, Shamir Duverseau, Jacinta C. Mathis, & Ryanna Mowatt focusing on a numerous amount of topics. One of the topics that will be emphasized in our conversation, will be asking “How do we connect with each other and ourselves?” How does “Being Human” relate to the world around us? If you are looking for me to provide you the “end all answer,” I must admit, I do not have one. I do though have an opinion that begins to slowly peel back the answer to this question. For how can we be Human in a world that pushes us to aggressively connect technologically, but can leave us so empty emotionally? For me “Being Human” means to be Perfectly imperfect. It means to make a Masterpiece out of the “Mess.” It means to show up authentically when it’s not necessarily accepted or choosing oneself when it is not easy. Being Human also means being accepted for all that you are, and more importantly for all that you are not. It means In a World of Computer Screens… - I hope that you have people around you that allows you to feel Seen. It means that when the algorithm pushes your posts because of the number of likes…I hope that it never shadows your ability to Like yourself...to Love yourself in your own life. I want to take this moment to honor the people…that in spite of the ways society may try to dehumanize - thank you for holding the space, that allows me to be Human. ❤️🔥 -Sincera EarlAlexander Mitchell Frank O.
