Is it normal, Airbnb, to leave your guests hanging when a host cancels an upcoming reservation that was booked over a year ago? Asking for a friend.

This is great for those hosts and owners doing things the right way! It also shows the importance of your cleaner. As the first, and sometimes, only set of eyes on the property before guests arrive, we serve as the quality control for your guest experience. A great cleaning partner will drive your listing to a top spot. Likewise, poor reviews and misses on cleaning will put your listing towards the bottom.

This is helpful but this does very little to actually protect guests, as the majority of issues happen on property / after checkin. I was treated horribly at two Airbnbs over the last year, once when I was pregnant and once when traveling with a young child, and both times, not only did Airbnb not support me in navigating the issues, but they also left it up to the host *completely* as to whether to provide a refund. It’s not a good customer experience if the only Guest recourse rests on Hosts. Furthermore, both times I tried to fall on Airbnb policies - first Air Cover then Code of Conduct - and was passed from person to person without ever receiving more than a boilerplate response. I tried once before to reach someone who might care here on LinkedIn and was told to submit a case. Not having received a resolution for my burn or being called names and harassed, I have no choice but to never stay in an Airbnb again. And I know many of my peers feel the same. Gone are the days where Airbnb is the safer, more intimate alternative. I’d rather go to a hotel where someone will take me seriously if I am injured on site or called names by staff.

I wish I can rate the host. However, the reservation is cancelled and Airbnb will not send me a survey link. It shows from Airbnb email that guests only receive a survey link after their stay. How can the nasty host be rated by a guest who had to cancel their reservation and lost more than $1,500?

This is really beneficial to guests and inspires hosts to upgrade their services. Well done!
