The Japanese concept of ikigai (combining “iki” meaning “to live” and “gai” meaning “reason) encourages you to reflect on your story to find your purpose. Your ikigai is where your passion, mission, profession, and vocation intersect. It’s a combination of: 💛 What you love doing 🎨 What you’re naturally good at 🌎 What the world needs 💰 What you can be paid for According to a 2023 study in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, finding one’s purpose is significantly associated with lower levels of depression and anxiety. Another study from PLoS One found that having a purpose led to higher emotional resilience. Working with a #coach or #therapist can help you reflect on personal and professional goals and ultimately find your purpose. #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #findyourpurpose

Lori Gottlieb and April Koh sat down at #TidalBySpring for a meaningful and memorable conversation, spanning everything from Lori’s own #mentalhealth journey to the shifting tides of workplace mental health. In this clip, Lori speaks to the importance of compassion in the workplace—how being compassionate toward yourself can radiate out, resulting in healthier workplace dynamics and better collaboration. We especially love Lori’s 3 questions to ask ourselves when we’re being overly self-critical: 💚 Is it kind?
💚 Is it true? 💚 Is it useful? #workplacewellbeing #lorigottlieb

Do you feel comfortable talking about your #mentalhealth at work? 🗣️ The Harvard Business Review conducted a survey of 2,400 employees at a Swiss company, measuring if sharing mental health stories resulted in higher engagement rates with their mental health solution. Turns out, employees were up to 8% more likely to engage with services after hearing a story. This research illustrates the true power of sharing your story. Empowering employees to share their stories can lead to a ripple effect across the entire business.

Veterans sacrifice so much for our freedom, yet many struggle silently with their mental health. Intertwining diagnoses of Substance Use Disorder (SUD), depression, anxiety, and PTSD create a complex situation with devastating outcomes. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs: ➡️ The suicide rate for Veterans is 1.5 times higher than that of the general population ➡️ About 30% of Veteran suicides and over 45% of suicide attempts since 2003 involved alcohol or drug use. ➡️ Veterans with SUDs are 3-4 times more likely to receive a PTSD or depression diagnosis. We can do better and it’s starts with greater access to specialized mental healthcare. Are you a Veteran in crisis or concerned about one? Dial 988 then press 1 for confidential crisis support for Veterans and their loved ones. You don't have to be enrolled in VA benefits or health care to call. #memorialday #veterans #mentalhealth

According to NAMI, 76% of U.S. workers feel burnt out, so we need to ask ourselves some questions... Expecting individuals to solve their burnout alone is treating a symptom without curing the disease. We all need a combination of solutions to solve a daunting problem. 👉 Personalized mental healthcare can help individuals tackle the most urgent symptoms of burnout including exhaustion, negativity, and reduced work performance. 👉 Pair individual employee benefits with organizational change to foster a true culture of care. A productive workplace is one where people at all levels feel heard and supported. 👉 On a sociopolitical level, we can advocate for and support policies that address social determinants of health, such as expanded insurance coverage, universal childcare, and anti-discrimination laws.

More than 1 in 3 adults age 45 and older feel lonely. In his keynote talk at #TidalbySpring Martin Paulus of the Laureate Institute for Brain Research explains why loneliness is a major factor in #mentalhealth outcomes. The average person will spend a third of their life at work —and the workplace can be an invaluable source of community and connection. Leaders can make connection a strategic priority for all, fostering a sense of belonging, inclusion, and collaboration to combat the impacts of loneliness.

From workplace stress to societal pressures, women face unique #mentalhealth challenges exacerbated by social determinants like poverty, unemployment, and sexism. In fact, did you know: ➡️ A recent survey of large U.S. employers found women of color and LGBTQ+ employees have the highest share of unmet basic needs. ➡️ Black, Latino, LGBTQIA+ and younger individuals have reported leaving their employer for better benefits that address their needs. ➡️ The poverty rate for women aged 18 to 64 is 14.2%, compared to 10.5% for men. ➡️ About 1 in 3 women have experienced sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner. ➡️ Around 65% of caregivers are women, and female caregivers spend as much as 50% more time providing care than male caregivers. #womenshealthweek Sources: McKinsey & Company, American Psychiatric Association
