Last week, the 11th annual Easterseals Disability Film Challenge (EDFC) Awards was held at the #SonyPics Culver City studio lot in the Cary Grant Theater. This event honored the best of this year's extraordinary creators, after receiving a record-breaking number of submissions globally. The ceremony kicked off with an exciting orange carpet featuring nominees, guests, and the night's presenters, and included introductory remarks from Kristine Belson (President, Features & Series, Sony Pictures Animation).     The EDFC “gives filmmakers—with and without disabilities—the opportunity to collaborate to tell unique stories that showcase disability in its many forms.” Each winner received a variety of premium prizes including a Sony Cinema Line Camera FX30 that came with a lens, microphone, and memory cards from Sony Electronics, along with invaluable access to entertainment leaders and resources, including a mentorship meeting with Steven O’Dell (President of International Releasing, Sony Pictures).      Congratulations to this year’s winners and nominees! Meet Jessica Simington, founder and co-lead of our Asian employee network (eNet). Raised by a mother who instilled a deep appreciation for her Hawaiian heritage, Jessica is fiercely proud of her culture and the Aloha spirit that lives in her people. While she established the eNet to create a safe space for #TeamSony to speak and share freely, she also appreciates connecting with influencers, ambassadors, and artisans in the Sony-verse, inviting them to share the ways in which they are shaping and empowering the Asian Pacific Islander community. This Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month (#APIHM), Jessica looks forward to prompting conversations and questions around the API community. "Maybe someone will attend an event and walk away with a newfound appreciation of a place or people. Maybe another person will get a deeper appreciation for their heritage. If that happens, even if we don’t hear about it, I’ll feel super accomplished."

Our own Mahyar (Mike) Nejat, VP of Engineering, has recently been appointed as a trustee for the Consumer Technology Association Foundation. This organization is committed to bringing technology to seniors and individuals with disabilities, fostering freedom, independence, purpose, and most importantly, vital connections. In his role as trustee, Mike will contribute his expertise as Sony's Head of Accessibility Promotion Office to help shape the Foundation's initiatives. Global Accessibility Awareness Day (#GAAD) is one week away! This day recognizes the importance of #accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities. It's a crucial opportunity to raise awareness, promote understanding, and encourage action towards creating a more accessible world for everyone. At Sony, we leverage creativity and technology to enhance the accessibility of our products, services, and experiences. Our commitment to accessibility is how we aim to create a future where everyone can share the moment, regardless of ability. This year, we're celebrating GAAD with the theme "Designing for Diversity." This theme emphasizes the importance of #inclusivedesign practices that consider the diverse needs and abilities of users, promoting a more accessible and equitable future.

Attendees of the 2024 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show got a first-hand look at how Sony’s technologies are empowering creators and professionals at every level and were able to immerse themselves in the latest trends reshaping the broadcast, live production, newsgathering, and cinema spaces. A #SonyCreateAction grantee, GlobalGirl Media empowers young women to bring their often-overlooked perspectives onto the global media stage. The nonprofit has trained more than 600 girls in nine countries, with 75-80% of their graduates going on to pursue a degree in media, journalism, or non-fiction film. https://lnkd.in/g7dbeW5F "We are oftentimes told or made to feel like the things that we want to say or things we feel are not as important,” said Ajianna Covington, GlobalGirl Media Los Angeles Program Director. “GlobalGirl Media tells us things we say and feel are very much important… We get confidence, we get a voice, and we get a network of amazing people who support us.” As recipients of the grant, they received $50,000 in cash to continue and expand the organization's work, $50,000 in Sony Electronics products to support their action plan, and this Sony-produced short film to tell their story.
