About us

A lot of companies say they’re “mission-driven.” Our unique corporate structure guarantees that every decision we make upholds our mission: to ensure the internet remains open and accessible. Beholden to neither shareholders nor investors, Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the not-for-profit Mozilla Foundation. Along with our communities of 20,000+ contributors and collaborators, Mozilla Corporation’s staff designs, builds, and distributes software that allows people to enjoy the internet on their own terms. Our flagship product — the Firefox browser — has expanded into a family of products that protects users and alerts them of risks, safeguards passwords and provides a secure VPN (with more to come). By maintaining a safe, open internet we're helping humanity, while also helping the individual humans employed here to reach their personal and professional goals. With a relatively small team serving hundreds of millions of people, a culture of exploration, and a commitment to mentorship, opportunities abound to learn and grow at Mozilla.

It’s been one year since Anonym became part of Mozilla. Since day one, we’ve been focused on proving that digital advertising can deliver real results—without giving up privacy or trust. Together, we’re building a better future for digital advertising, because respecting users shouldn’t mean sacrificing what works. A few of our favorite moments from our first year with Mozilla… We hit the ground running at MozWeek 2024 (Mozilla’s company wide gathering) in Dublin, where Brad Smallwood and Tamara Greasby introduced Mozilla to Anonym. We shared our vision for rethinking ad tech and building more innovative, privacy-first infrastructure for the open internet. We showed up at Advertising Week New York with a clear message: ads don’t have to feel icky. Alongside Mozilla, we joined a panel of brand and media leaders to talk about building high-performing campaigns without compromising privacy. A big moment for our shared vision, and just the beginning. 🔮 We ran numerous studies with large ad platforms like TikTok and top advertisers across 4 continents—proving you don’t have to choose between driving results and respecting data. 📈 Graham Mudd took the PETs conversation global at Computers, Privacy and Data Protection in Brussels to spotlight how independent solutions (like Anonym) can protect privacy and unlock real competition in digital advertising. We launched Anonym Private Audiences: a new way for advertisers to securely build high-performing lookalike audiences using their own first-party data — without exposing customer information to platforms or partners. 🔥 In early tests, we’re seeing an average of 30% better performance compared to broad targeting. Thank you to the Anonym team for staying focused on the mission and to the Mozilla community for welcoming us so generously. We’re just getting started. And with new partnerships on the horizon, we’re scaling something powerful: proof that effectiveness and privacy aren’t opposites—they’re better together. 🚀

I just wrapped up my week in London, where I was in town for SXSW London. Quickly sharing four standout moments: 1. A reminder that people still care about the internet: We had a full house at the “2050: Future-Thinking” stage for my conversation with Naomi Kerbel on choice and the future of the web. The energy in the room was strong, it kicked off some fun conversations, and it was wonderful to see that people really understand why choice matters. 2. Inspiration from thinkers and innovators: I had the opportunity to engage in conversations with brilliant individuals across industries—from tech innovators to media leaders—reflecting on what’s at stake if only a few powerful companies define genAI and tomorrow’s web. The drive to do better is real. 3. Connection with Mozillians: I had the opportunity to spend some great time with our local teams in person. Nothing beats real life conversations, about everything from the state of the internet to whether the jam or the cream should go on the top of the scone (... of course the only right answer is cream) 4. Getting to wear my favourite t-shirt on stage that says it best: “People make the internet great. Billionaires do not.” Thanks to everyone who I had the chance to meet, for the conversations and inspiration. The next chapter of the internet is being rewritten right now: That was the common thread through the entire week. And I’m proud Mozilla is helping to shape it. https://lnkd.in/gEBsxWzy

    Mozilla. Also: Dad. Cyclist. Foodie.

How can nations (in this case the UK) become AI powerhouses, without trying to outspend the US and China? The answer is Open Source AI. I’m excited to share today a new report from Mozilla x Demos that argues the UK should turn to openness, and make investments in public AI infrastructure. Our report includes recommendations for how the Government can protect and support open source AI in the UK. Some of those recommendations? Making the National Data Library open source, promoting public AI infrastructure, prioritizing open-source procurements and securing international and cross-sector partnerships that support open model development. Countries can’t buy their way to the top of the AI pile; instead, we argue that openness can drive innovation, strengthen sovereignty, reduce dependency and deliver public value. Thanks to our partners for their collaboration on this important paper. Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/ejMVn5Kb

Today’s the day! I'll be speaking at SXSW London on the 2050: Future-Thinking stage at 3:20 PM. Join me at Shoreditch Electric for a conversation about something that’s becoming harder to ignore... how online “choice” is being shaped for us. As AI, algorithms, and tightly controlled platforms become more dominant, the freedom to explore the internet on our own terms is narrowing. What would it take to push back and design something more open, more human? Looking forward to the conversation. Hope to see you there. https://lnkd.in/gEBsxWzy
