Today, we are releasing a tool for Hubs users to download their data from hubs.mozilla.com, managed subscription instances, and Hubs Cloud Instances. As many of you already know, this February Mozilla announced that Hubs will shut down on May 31, 2024. In preparation for the shutdown, this tool allows anyone who has uploaded media or created scenes and avatars on Hubs to export all data associated with their email address in bulk. All Hubs users will have until May 31, 2024 to download their data before it is permanently deleted. We highly recommend that you begin the download process as soon as possible. You can find more information about the tool in this blog post: https://lnkd.in/g3eRFwsk We understand that many of you may have additional questions about the shutdown and how to support Hubs’ life beyond Mozilla. We encourage you to reach out to us on our Discord server (https://lnkd.in/gS2CD7H3) or email us at [email protected].

And December's Share-of-the-Month goes to... 🥁 Christopher Derrell's write-up of Youth Can Do I.T.'s collaboration with Jesus College at Oxford University challenging students to incorporate ethical design in their 3D worlds ❤️ Read more about this project empowering young creators building meaningful virtual experiences: https://lnkd.in/g7WJ3fE4
in november 2023, we held a one-day 3D design workshop with participants from our Project Amplify program with Jesus College Oxford. The goal? Building on what they'd learned throughout the past months, we gave each a challenge to incorporate the Ethical Guidelines for the Metaverse into the 3D spaces they would design, using Mozilla Hubs. aged 10 (not pictured) to 15 years old, the students took the challenge and got to designing. By the end of the day, among the many things learned (some KPop fans), I had 3 major takeaways. ◇ Each student had a unique design choice, directly matching their personality. Whether it was the outdoor vs. closed indoors, all black vs. bright colored spaces or laid back vs. highly interactive. Each space was an extension of the student's personality ◇ Once they got the hang of how to add 3D models to their spaces from Sketchfab and publish their scenes, we were able to be mostly hands off, just troubleshooting and answering specific questions ◇ Of the many many items we had on our ethical guidelines document that the students could choose from to implement, 50% of them chose to focus on mental health -- Our responsibility at Youth Can Do I.T. is to help expand mindset first (the "I Can Do"), and then to equip them with the how to do it, whether coding websites, building games or 3D spaces. We were blessed by God to have had this opportunity. Special thanks to Gregory Moore of PlayJamaica for jumping on board for the mission and sharing his perfect fit space with us. Stay tuned for more.
