Risk Management / Cybersecurity executive enhancing resilience for institutions | Engaging leadership teams with risk quant methodologies, AI Automation and strategies for optimizing risk programs.
I could waste at least 45 minutes writing up pretty much the same post as my fellow wrangler Allan Alford took the time to summarize. Hell, someone even confused me with you at one point 🤠! Got the white and black hats crossed? My additional observation...with all of the talk around #AI and also the many peers, mentors and friends that have experienced a #jobloss / change in the past two years....it has driven us back to re-evaluating what is really important, and that is our #humanconnections and networks. No matter how many LLMs and GPTs flood the market they can never replace these critical interactions. It did feel to me that rekindling connections was the big theme personally as I caught up with so many old friends and new contacts on topics of Cyber Risk Quantification and Management, Risk Transfer, and OT/ICS Security. Special thanks to Larry Whiteside Jr., Jimmy S, CISSP, CRISC, CISMCasey Marquette CISSP, CRISC, Allan Alford, Rafal Los, Dani Woolf, Mel Rico Reyes, BSidesSF, John Sapp Jr, Jack Jones, Richard Seiersen, George Kamide, Rachel Arnold, Mark Liggett, David Whelen, Joshua Copeland, Chris Roberts, David Spark (and many others) for being those "gravity wells" in our communities and bringing great people together for great conversations. Now, it is going to take me at least a week to sort this all out with our DeNexus team. Meanwhile, we have NolaCon kicking off this week so if you missed #BRSec, #BSidesNOLA, #BSidesSF, or #RSAC or any of this. There is still a chance to strengthen those human connections. Otherwise, get some downtime people!
#rsac2024 Best one in 5 years. Two themes emerged. No, not AI and LLM. Human themes. 1. Higher burnout/more transitions. Lots of migrating from CISO to vCISO, to founder, VC, etc. 2. Higher rate of humans just checking in with each other. Real conversations. Real “How are you?” questions. Housemates this year at #tinkerhouse were outstanding. Gary Hayslip Taylor Lehmann Nick Vigier Julie Davila Mike Geehan and especially Jacob Jernigan. Nathan Case was our principal and favorite guest. #tinkertribe delivered on all its promises as always. Thanks to William Lin for letting us invade his home for every event. Great late night (until 3am!) conversations with Rob Fry. Worked the booth with Eclypsium, Inc. and got a taste of the vendor perspective. Recorded podcasts with my dear friends at Semperis and too many great guests to name (stay tuned!) Finally met Laz . In person and he bought me lunch! Excellent human being! Bonded more with Maria Graham Carlos Guerrero Carolann Jacobs, CISSP, CISM, CCSP, GCTI George A. George Kamide Dani Woolf Good hugs. Freddy Jose Mangum was wonderful to chat with. Re-bonded with my brother Bryan Hurd. Helen Patton was awesome as always! Got to hug Kirsten Davies . Too many wonderful experiences to capture. Chris Castaldo’s Pitch for Charity was a huge success as always. Special shout-outs to Adam Bateman //O at Push Security and James W. Doggett and Thomas LeDuc at Semperis. Ran into Larry Whiteside Jr. Andres Andreu, CISSP-ISSAP, QTE Chris "Cpat" Patteson 🤠 … Even got to pet a sheepdog, and ended the week with a lovely French dinner with Anil Earla . Love this community and still fiercely believe in its mission, but so very, very tired. Plan to sleep on the plane. #ciso #infosec #cybersecurity
