@codyscott from Forrester makes valid comments in a recent blog on cyber risk ratings: “Know the difference between risk ratings and risk quantification. A risk rating is not a quantitative measure of risk — full stop” Cyber risk ratings and risk assessment efforts give you a relative score of risk. Maybe it gives you a comparison with peers or a relative rating of each risk, but this comes with serious limitations. Taking cyber risk assessment to the next level and quantifying cyber risk in monetary teams has significant benefits: 🎯 You can model your estimated overall loss by adding the various losses (which you can’t do if you get red/yellow/green ratings) 🎯 You get business metrics that you can engage your CFOs, executive colleagues, and your board on 🎯 You can build a plan to prioritize risk mitigation projects and model how much each project will reduce risk 🎯 Using the above you can demonstrate the value of your cybersecurity efforts, and show proactive management and governance of cyber risks 🎯 You can better manage your cybersecurity budget, justify investments, and allocate resources where they’re most needed 🎯 Your CFO will be able to integrate cyber risks into other models to manage the enterprise’s overall risks. Great experience at NY Tech Week, especially at Insurtech Insights NY. Thank you very much for the event Megan Kuczynski and Veronica Lake. Here is a summary of the week and the insights gathered: ➊ HCS Capital Scouting Balance🚀: ▉ +1500 companies participating ➩ ▆ 59 startups to contact ➩ ▄ 32 pitch meetings ➩ ▂ 🤞 prospects 👏 ➋ My insights from Insurtech Insights: 💡 ✅ There is noticeable traction in solutions using Large Language Models (LLM) (No longer just PowerPoints!). Applications are seen to enhance processes for insurers/brokers/agents, especially to accelerate underwriting, automate claims settlement, boost broker/agent productivity, improve risk models and leverage vast amounts of information of incumbents for insights and alerts ✅ The next challenge is to customize LLMs technology for specific industries and specific problems, taking into account information security ✅ There are more solutions that enhance risk models by structuring and combining data from satellite images, meteorological data and data from IoT devices. Loss ratios declining? ✅ More parametric insurance solutions, but many have gained little traction. However, there are a couple of exceptions ✅ Still looking for winners with traction in the DeFi/Smart Contracts space in insurance yet. If you know of any, please let me know ✅ Strong interest of investors and startups in Latin American markets ➌ Events and people ➢ Run organized by bolt through Central Park: I never thought it would be so many kilometers, but we did it. It was a pleasure meeting you all, and thank you for the organization Rob Schimek #Bolttech. Bernardo Roque De Pinho We were waiting for you. ➢ HCS Capital breakfast with Plug and Play Tech Center and Greenlight Re. good conversations about the latest trends. Thank you for coming Elliot Vernon Hugues Bertin Alex Horvitz Andres Diaz Martinez Rafael Sainz Sainz de Baranda. We missed Mundi Ventures in the conversations, but we'll catch up in Spain Javier S. Lluís Viñas Fernandez ➢ Miami Insurtech Advocates Hub event: great initiative to boost the Latin American ecosystem. Highly recommended to become a member. Thank you Hilario (Hil) Itriago ➢ QBE Ventures and Cameron Ventures cocktail: I had the opportunity to hear the experience of Chris Bayley in Cover Genius and meeting new people Marc Büchel Munich Re Ventures. ➢ Founders dinner organized by InsurTech NY: Great opportunity to meet founders and other VCs. Thank you Thien-Nga Palmer and David Gritz. ➢ Other relevant conversations with Stacey Brown, MBA from InsurTech Hartford / Mads Faartoft Jensen from ManchesterStory / Christian Horn from Sandbox Industries HCS Booth = Joshu baoba inc Kwant DeNexus Chainproof FleetrUS *Following the steps of publishing in LinkedIn of Hugues Bertin 👨🏫*

What can organizations do to address issues related to #password exposure? DeNexus' Jose M Seara details in SecurityWeek article by Eduard Kovacs that password management is one of the known weaknesses in ICS/OT environments that can be easy to deal with and brings significant improvements to a company’s risk posture. https://shorturl.at/GTrTs #OTcybersecurity #OTcyberrisk #riskmanagement #cybersecurity #cyberrisk

🇺🇸✨🚀 ▶️ We attended an incredible event at Insurtech Insights! 🎉 Congratulations to Megan Kuczynski and the ITI team for the organization. Day 1: I had the honor of moderating a panel titled “How does it take a high impact insurtech” with great professionals like Taylor Mobley from Bamboo, Alexandre Douzet from Pumpkin, the outstanding VC Ben Bergsma from Munich Re Venture, and Lauren Kim from NFP representing the major brokers. Day 2: We started with a breakfast with HCS Capital and several VCs to discuss insurtech trends and share our visions of the ecosystem. ▶ We enjoyed the event with the entire HCS Capital ecosystem, highlighting the participation of two of our invested insurtechs: DeNexus with Jose M Seara and CarbonPool with Nandini Wilcke and Frederic Olbert. ▶ We discussed trends with VCs like Gloria Guntiñas Vanzo, Rafael Sainz Sainz de Baranda , Andres Diaz Martinez, and Greenlight. ▶ We spent time with influencers like Stacey Brown, the magician Tony Cañas, CPCU, MBA, AU, ARM, ARe, AIC, AIS , and friends like Hilario (Hil) Itriago and Juan Mazzini. ▶ We were impressed by the talks from Chris Bayley, co-founder of Covergenius, now launching his VC fund deck2.vc, and Rob Schimek, founder of Bolttech, who will be our Keynote Speaker at the EILA event on September 3 and 4 in Santiago, Chile. A must-attend! Three key trends according to Hugues Bertin: 1️⃣ Although some large insurtechs may fall in the coming months, the future of the ecosystem is promising. 2️⃣ GenAI will be an integral technology in all insurtechs, making Compliance & Security critical issues. 🔐 3️⃣ Cyber, SME, Embedded Insurance, and Parametric are recurring terms. 4️⃣ Many insurtechs are still focusing on being tech providers rather than solving significant problems. 5️⃣ Loss ratio and getting back to basics are crucial! It was an unforgettable and enriching experience for all the participants!
