Renter's guide to Philadelphia, PA

Hey there America! We are so glad you were born here in Philly. Food of choice? The classic Philly cheesesteak of course! Remember that a cheesesteak "wit" means that it comes with cheese wiz squirted on top.

Coffee regular? Coffee with cream and sugar. Hoagie? That's a submarine sandwich. Grinder? That would be a toasted submarine sandwich. Don't worry, once you learn all the lingo, you'll start to feel at home in the City of Brotherly Love as you look for apartments and houses for rent. It's a very particular kind of brotherly love in this town, and while the generally in-your-face attitude may take some getting used to, you will find that the people of this city are real. With a high concentration of colleges, universities, civic minded art and of course, passionate Eagles fans, this city is intellectually alive, full of pride and spirit, and teeming with American history.

Philadelphia is the economic heart of Pennsylvania, with seven Fortune 1000 companies, and booming tech, manufacturing, oil, food, health, tourism, and financial industries. It is home to the Philadelphia Stock Exchange, Boeing Rotorcraft Systems, Pep Boys, Urban Outfitters, David’s Bridal, Comcast, food service companies Aramark and Crown, and insurance companies Colonial Penn, CIGNA, and Independence Blue Cross. The largest private employer is the University of Pennsylvania, followed by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Rittenhouse Square
Located in the heart of Philadelphia, this affluent oasis has a great sense of community that is unique in this city. Feelin' fancy? Walnut Street provides a great selection of upscale shops and restaurants. The neighborhood surrounds the beloved and strikingly green Rittenhouse Square Park. A true public gathering space, the park brings together graduate students living in apartments near Upenn, young professionals, families, and of course, dogs. Find a bench with your coffee and your paper and let the people watching begin in this pristine urban neighborhood.
Center City East
The most dense and historic area of Philly and home to the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, beautiful City Hall, the Convention Center, Chinatown, and Washington Square West. Check out Pure, 12th Street Gym, and Woodys, where Wednesday night is college night. Great neighborhood to go out to eat or to grab a cup of coffee and hang out and maybe even play a little mini-golf in Franklin Square.
Fairmount - Art Museum
Due to a growing restaurant and bar scene, this laid-back neighborhood is becoming increasingly desirable for young professionals and graduate students looking for apartments near Temple. Is that Rocky Balboa running up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art? This district is often called the Art Museum Area because of its proximity to and association with the illustrious museum, the Franklin Institute and the Rodin Museum. Easy access to Center City is another plus.
Center City West
Downtown area west of City Hall. Encounter upscale shopping, the financial district with Philly's tallest skyscrapers (who doesn't love a city view from their office?), and the museum district. Active, hip and young nightlife around Rittenhouse Square area with both dive bars and posh cocktail lounges. The Mutter Museum located here is becoming a popular attraction, but not for the squeamish – prepare for some graphic information about America's medical history. Center City West is a prime area for apartments near Drexel University.
Manayunk
Located a convenient fifteen minutes from Center City, this hip and artsy neighborhood has it all. Thriving nightlife and a fabulous restaurant and bar scene – particularly in its international cuisine offerings. From high-end boutiques and consignment shops to salons and spas, home decor, art galleries and music stores, Manayunk provides an urban experience full of charm. Gotta get that fresh air fix? This hood is big on recreation and provides great trails for walking, running, and biking.
Avenue of the Arts North
Art comes alive here, which is no surprise considering that the Avenue of the Arts is home to more than fifty of Philly's most important arts and cultural institutions. Here you will find the Kimmel Center (Philadelphia Orchestra), the Academy of Music, the Merriam Theatre, the Wilma Theatre and the Suzanne Roberts Theatre. Aside from being the city's heart of entertainment and the arts, this hood is also a great place to eat and shop.
Logan Square
An attractive, exciting and friendly place to live, you'll recognize it by the beautiful Swann Memorial Fountain in its center – maybe you will see it from your new rental apartment! Home to a major portion of the City Center's business district, restaurants and public spaces. A coveted and history-infused neighborhood, a number of the properties here are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
