Star Wars, DC, the Untamed, and my own random thoughts.

An underappreciated side of film!Pippin is that he’s so recklessly compassionate. The other hobbits weigh their decisions *somewhat* carefully, but Pippin’s all “Someone’s sad? I gotta make them happy! Someone’s hurt? I have to help them!”

He never even stops to think about it, which is obviously heartwarming but also obviously gets him into trouble

He finds out Denethor is Boromir’s grieving father and like instantly swears to serve him to atone for his son’s death. He meets Faramir and about ten seconds later is reassuring him that “you have strength too, of a different kind, and one day your father will see it.” He sees Merry is injured, and desperately tries to get literal uruk-hai monster murder-captors to feel enough compassion to help him.  When he sees Frodo is about to leave the Fellowship he immediately rushes out to talk him down, and then seconds later is instantly on board with Merry’s plan to distract the uruk-hai long for Frodo to escape. The moment he realizes Denethor is trying to burn Faramir alive he tries to pull apart the pyre alone, with his bare hands, outnumbered by Denethor and his armed guards, and when he’s tossed aside (because he’s only three feet tall and technically not even an adult) he immediately runs down into a bloody dangerous battle, pushing past wounded men fleeing in the opposite direction, to find help, and so on and so on

Like Pippin is foolish sometimes. But I feel that a lot of moments that get written off as “foolishness” are just…caring so much that he immediately tries to help without sparing a moment to consider whether the task he’s undertaking is actually possible

Those "modern fairy tales where the princess saves herself" types of books not only misrepresent the gender roles in fairy tales (there are tons of stories where girls get to save the day), but they fundamentally misunderstand the entire genre.

Fairy tales aren't about saving yourself.

These aren't epic myths or heroic legends about the great warriors who slay every monster in their path because they're so awesome. Fairy tales are almost always about ordinary, even incompetent, people who get thrown into strange situations where they only succeed because of the help of others.

It's not a gendered thing. The boy who goes off to seek his fortune is usually the dim-witted third son whose older brothers are the strong, smart ones. The third son succeeds because he is kind to the magical helpers who then complete the tasks for him--and the exact same thing happens when a girl is the main character.

The characters in a fairy tale rarely succeed because they embrace their own strength and take their own path. Much more often, they are told step-by-step what to do, and they succeed because they obey--respecting the wisdom of others.

The core virtue of a fairy tale is not pride, but humility. It's not a story about the strong, but those who are weak, small, helpless. The people who can't do it all on their own, but can recognize the worth and wisdom of others.

Turning this story into a "girl power" (or even a "boy power") story warps it into something that is fundamentally the opposite of a fairy tale, and it has nothing to do with the gender of the main character.

i'm finally making my motorsports fan post about Pit Babe - i keep seeing people spread around incorrect racing information, and obviously most fans are not motorsports/racing fans but just bl drama fans. So here's some info from a motorsports turned BL drama fan under the cut including: basic race info, X-Hunter & Red Racing race strategy, and an explanation of Alan's team decisions that includes team hierarchy in both seasons, and Kim's (questionable) career moves

This has been so enlightening. Thank you for making this!

ive seen a lot of people talk about after care on here but only mention it to the extent of some cuddles and a bath and i just want to remind everyone that aftercare shouldnt be limited to that.

if you have a harder session, tend to your subs bruises, scratches, and marks. put ice on bruises and welts to help with inflammation and pain.

if you do bondage, take care of rope burn and help them do some stretches. their body is going to be stiff from being restricted in one position for a long time. also a heating pad can help with sore muscles.

if they have any cuts or are bleeding, dress their wounds properly. make sure to put on antibiotic ointment on before a bandage if needed.

if they have burns for whatever reason, run them under cold water and maybe use ointment on those to help them heal.

make sure they pee after sex to help prevent a UTI. their legs may be shaky so help them get to the bathroom if needed.

give them advil or some other pain med to help with any aching or discomfort.

make sure they drink water. they need it and i cant stress how important this is. also give them some food even if its just a little snack.

give them verbal assurance and praise. tell them they did good and that youre proud of them.

still run a bath, get them cleaned up, give them kisses, cuddle them, etc but dont forget about the rest of aftercare, its so important. take care of your subs and always remember consent, communication, and safety are key.

also give your doms aftercare and affection too, theyre people with emotions and need it

aftercare is just as, if not more, important than the actual scene and should never be skipped, rushed, or disregarded

I think Leverage has a really neat take on the concept of revenge.

Because a lot of times, revenge gets framed as this inherently immoral act, like it doesn't matter how evil the person you want revenge on is, it doesn't matter that stopping them is a net positive for the world, revenge is just bad and wanting it makes you bad.

But I think that a lot of the problems with most revenge narratives come from the fact that the person/people seeking revenge put too much importance on getting revenge, but there's not enough catharsis in the actual act of taking revenge. They end up left with a whole lot of left-over righteous anger, and no acceptable targets left to vent it on. That way lies the bloodline ending feuds of greek tragedy and the like.

But Leverage says "No, actually you're right, that guy is absolutely terrible, he does need to be stopped and his victims should be awarded the catharsis of revenge." But then, instead of taking the easy way out of having Hardison siphon all the money out of their accounts, or sending Elliot over to their house with a baseball bat, they complicate the revenge plot. Instead of walking the easier path of the quick and unsatisfying revenge, they insist on poetic justice and dramatic irony and the complete and utter, very public destruction of the worst people in the world.

That's why I think Leverage feels different to, say, The Count of Monte Cristo, or other revenge-centric stories. They go the extra mile to tailor their revenge to the target, and give them Exactly what they deserve.

I mean the Count of Monte Cristo did also go the extra mile. that was a pretty significant thing that happened. like I understand where you’re coming from here but the Count of Monte Cristo did also very much do a complicated revenge plot

pyramid conspiracies are so funny cause like yeah theyre extremely impressive feats of engineering but its not like. crazy unbelievable. i think even as a kid if you asked me how i thought the pyramids were built id be like "i think they probably cut rocks into rectangles and stacked them. it probably took a very long time." aliens or power plants would not remotely be on my list of options yknow.

Ao3 does not need an algorithm, you're just lazy

Ao3 does not need a 1-5 star rating system, you just want to bring down authors writing for FREE

Ao3 does not need automatic censorship, it is an archive, therefore anything can be posted

Writing or reading about something illegal does not mean the author nor the reader condones it, if that were true, you could never read a story involving anything negative

Purity culture is ruining fan culture and you all are fucking annoying

you used to be able to play games on cartoonnetwork.com . . . now every company's website wants to give you spyware and spread corporate propaganda but I REMEMBER when you could play a BEN 10 adventure game in-browser without so much as giving away your e-mail. people's heads should be on pikes for this

i will never make a fandom sideblog you will get everything on one blog and you will like it. you will learn to love all my interests even if you followed for just one. my blog #myblog

working at an escape room will expose you to so many types of guys incapable of using their imaginations or committing to the bit

please sir if you just want to tear shit apart and not solve any riddles or puzzles maybe you shouldn’t be at the immersive puzzle riddle experience event and should go to a rage room instead

once a week someone would come in with a handcuff key, a black light, a screwdriver, and a magnet and then smugly expect to be congratulated on their cleverness at bypassing half the game. like ok man you do realize this is a thing you paid actual money to participate in. you are not being forced to solve my puzzles to save Gotham City before the Boy Wonder is crushed in the jaws of my giant nutcracker. you know that right. I am 22 and wear hand me down sandals from a 12 year old and get paid $9.50 an hour. you don’t have to be here.

yes okay I know I did do a villainous laugh over the intercom and say “you have one hour to escape my dungeon… if you can” but that was me going above and beyond to create a fun theatrical experience for you without breaking kayfabe. your handcuffs are held together with weak magnets that would not restrain a house cat. please do not put your fist through the television screen.

Proposal for new fandom etiquette:

If you read a fic because it was linked/recced somewhere, you leave a comment saying "came from XXX" and that comment doesn't need to include anything else.

Because when all of a sudden there's a lot of activity on one particular fic I WANNA KNOW WHY!!!!!

This is cool, because not only am I sure all authors would like to know that, but also it gives a ready-to-use comment prompt to all those who don't know what to write in a comment.

Yes please! Tell me how you found it. Tripped over it while searching for something else, came from someone else’s bookmarks, Reddit recommendation, Tumblr post, irl word of mouth; I’d love to know.

I had someone comment that their friend recommended my fic. That is so awesome to hear!
