The Role 

We seek a knowledgeable Senior Software Engineer to take the privacy of our Customer Identity products, customer data, and infrastructure to the next level. This role is a key member of the Privacy team embedded within the Customer Identity product unit and works across multiple functions to solve data privacy challenges to support the growth of our global Customer Identity business. We are an engineering-focused team that seeks to build software services for  cutting edge of privacy technology and implement controls to mitigate the  privacy threat landscape. In this role you will work as part of a globally distributed team of talented engineers who share a passion for data privacy and enjoy solving complex problems at scale. This role works closely with Product Engineering, Data Engineering, and Legal stakeholders to deliver on data privacy strategy for Okta’s customer identity products.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Partner closely with cross-functional partners across Engineering, Legal, Data, and Product to embed sound technical privacy practices in everything we ship and help uncover risks before they become issues.
  • Contribute towards development of new privacy features, tools, and scalable solutions to optimize the work of the Privacy Engineering team and enable us to deliver privacy-centric solutions for our internal and external stakeholders.
  • Foster a forum of data stewards to operate as an extended support team for privacy engineering initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Security Engineering leadership for annual planning, prioritizations and progress management.
  • Build, deploy & maintain scalable and reliable infrastructure services as well as privacy solutions for customer identity products.
  • Support privacy investigations in coordination with the Okta Legal and Compliance teams, participate in root cause analysis and perform necessary remediations.

What this position is not: 

  • Security engineering, incident response, dedicated code reviews, or compliance focused.

Requirements:

  • You have 3+ years of hands-on development experience writing microservices with Golang 
  • You have working knowledge with one or more of the following:
    • AWS and/or Azure security
    • Kubernetes
  • You have experience performing technical privacy or security reviews, recommending good design patterns, and identifying trade-offs.
  • You have working knowledge and experience with one or more of the following:
    • Database principles including familiarity with SQL, noSQL, and DBT.
    • Privacy automation and orchestration.
    • Data inventory and classification.
    • User data protection and data loss prevention.
    • Encryption, data anonymization, pseudonymization.
  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • You have experience working with a globally distributed and remote team.

Bonus points if:

  • You have working knowledge and experience with one or more of the following:
    • Privacy Engineering.
    • Data pipelines and event streaming platforms such as Kafka.
    • Protocol buffers.
    • Identity and access management.
    • Governance, risk and compliance.
    • GDPR, CCPA / CPRA, or other privacy regulations.
    • Data pipelines for large scale systems.
    • Data privacy in cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
    • Data privacy in a large scale data system (Snowflake).
    • Data privacy in NoSQL data stores including MongoDB.

Required:

  • This position requires the ability to access federal environments and/or have access to protected federal data.  As a condition of employment for this position, the successful candidate must be able to submit documentation establishing U.S. Person status (e.g. a U.S. Citizen, National, Lawful Permanent Resident, Refugee, or Asylee. 22 CFR 120.15) upon hire.

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California, Colorado, New York and Washington. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, New York, and Washington is between:$136,000$204,000 USD The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between: $152,000$228,000 USD
