Hey there, LinkedIn! Starting a new position, especially when that entails managing a new team, is never easy. Earning the "Top Sales Manager" title on my first quarter, doesn't say much about myself, as it does for the culture at Reddit Ads, and how refreshing it is to be part of a workplace thriving on communication, understanding, and clear objectives. As a sidenote, as well as a reminder: every human relationship is flourishing on a basis of trust. It's always "I trust you, so show me I'm right to do so", as opposed to "I don't trust you, so earn my trust". Once you put trust in your team, and treat them as humans, rather than numbers or kids that need to be supervised at all times, things can only get better.

If you're going to build in the relationship space, you need into get the weeds of what's working and what's not. Last week, I attended my second speed-friending event, where 50 strangers come together in a room to answer 1:1 questions like, "What's a loss you haven't mourned?" Uncomfortable yet? I love these events, because it pushes past the usual banter and allows people to go deep quickly, ultimately building more meaningful connections, faster. In the primary research I've done on making new friends and dating, NO ONE wants to meet people online anymore. We all saw Bumble's financial report and massive layoffs last week. 😢❌ That era is over. Safety issues, ghosting, and a sense that you can't trust what you see, are pushing *some* people to events like this. But sadly, most sit home and spend more time with their tech. I've tried to get friends to go with me to these events. It's hard. For many, it's incredibly intimidating, and there are just so many reasons why you can ultimately talk yourself out of going. Personally, I love the setup and people I've met, but there's no community building afterwards, and most people live 20 - 60 minutes away from me. So when we think about optimizing our product at Purposely Social, we think about creating IRL relationship opportunities that: 1. Are hyperlocal 2. Are easily repeatable 3. Make it fast and easy to build deeper relationships with existing friends 4. Give users a interest-based pathway to meet friends of friends 5. Tell me you know your ad does not belong on a platform, it's bad or that you have a fundamental misunderstanding of modern advertising without telling me - you turn off the comments. Advertisers on Reddit, Inc. do this frequently. I've seen one ad that allowed comments and the engagement was insane. It was for a DTC coffin brand. Sure, people made fun of it and had many questions, but the team engaged back. It was resulted in tremendous positive sentiment and the community LOVED IT. PS. Job Seekers, do not pay for this list. Most HR and hiring managers will ignore your message and potentially be annoyed you did not follow their hiring process. LinkedIn should not allow it - there is zero people listed as working for the "company" and it looks a shell account of someone pushing a bad idea to people desperate for work.
