🎙️How can we prevent technology facilitated child sexual violence? Episode 5 of the third series of The Sexual Violence Research Podcast is out now! Online spaces were not created or designed with children in mind. Children are exposed to all kinds of content on the internet, and interact with strangers daily. As the internet is now ubiquitous in the lives of our children and new technologies emerge rapidly, what can we do to keep them safe from online child sexual violence? In this episode our hosts Elizabeth Dartnall, Executive Director, SVRI and Ayesha Mago, Global Advocacy Director, SVRI speak to Shailey Hingorani, Head of Policy, Advocacy and Research at WeProtect Global Alliance and Amy Crocker, Head of Child Protection and Technology at ECPAT International. Together they discuss how technology facilitates violence against and exploitation of children, but also how we can use it to fight against these practices. We hear about the responsibilities of tech companies, the importance of coordinated efforts across sectors, and the necessity for evidence-based interventions, and the uncomfortable reality that if we want to fully address the issue, we also need to understand what drives the demand, while supporting people at risk of perpetrating these crimes. The Sexual Violence Research Podcast can be found on the major podcast platforms, Apple and Spotify as well as at svri.org. 🔗Listen here: https://lnkd.in/d4Dc5YMK

⚠ ⚠ ⚠ Sharing important new research from Alliance member Lucy Faithfull Foundation. Our #2023GlobalThreatAssessment report highlighted evidence suggesting that viewing pornography may form a pathway to perpetrating child sexual abuse. Research like this is much needed to better understand possible links between regular viewing of pornography and the likelihood of suffering or perpetrating child sexual exploitation and abuse online — not least because young people themselves recognise the negative impacts of exposure to online pornography.
🚨 What's porn got to do with it? Today, we launched our new Faithfull Paper about the link between adult pornography and child sexual abuse. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gGBJGNbA #FaithfullPaper #ChildSexualAbusePrevention

The past decade has seen increased legislative initiatives and regulation around the world to keep children safe online. By introducing clear and constructive regulatory measures for the technology industry, and by empowering regulators with the right enforcement tools, governments can make the internet a much safer place for children to learn, explore and play. For example, since 2021 Australia, the European Union, Ireland, Nigeria, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and the US state of California have joined Fiji, France, Germany, New Zealand and others in enacting or introducing new forms of online safety regulation. Various laws are also proposed including: the Digital India Act, the EU’s proposed regulation to tackle child sexual abuse material and various Bills in the United States. 💡Visit our Model National Response Framework to find out more about how legislation, policy and governance play a key role in protecting children ➡️ https://loom.ly/ULi1ftU #safeonline #childprotection
