About us
The International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (ICMEC) empowers and equips the global community to protect children from abduction, sexual abuse, and exploitation. Through high quality research, advocacy, education, and technical assistance, the International Centre addresses the need for cutting-edge solutions to these problems. Since its inception, ICMEC has trained over 16,000 law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and specialists around the world on how to handle child protection cases; helped 19 countries develop Rapid Emergency Child Alert Systems similar to AMBER Alert in the U.S; created a Global Missing Children's center comprised of 30 member countries on 5 continents; created a Global Health Coalition of 33 members, including 4 of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world; and, since our Child Sexual Abuse Material: Model Legislation & Global Review was released in 2006, 150 countries have refined or implemented new anti-CSAM laws. Please join us in the fight to protect children around the world. Together, we can create a world worthy of its children. For more information, please visit www.icmec.org. Today marks World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 💻 The HEROES Project addresses online-facilitated human trafficking and child abuse. The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day aims to increase understanding of the opportunities and challenges the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICTs) offer societies and economies, and how it has dramatically altered global communication and collaboration. 📌 While ICTs have supported income-generating activities, they have also given rise to online crimes, including forms of extreme exploitation. Globally, the number of people, especially children, falling victim to human trafficking and child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSA/CSE) is rising; despite increased international attention and resources. In Europe, sexually exploited women and girls make up the majority of human trafficking victims. 📢The HEROES FCT Research Project As part of a large-scale EU-funded research consortium, a dedicated team of researchers at ICMPD is developing new methods and strategies to assist survivors of trafficking, sexual abuse and exploitation, particularly those happening online or with new ICTs. It optimises technologies to improve how support and assistance can be provided to law enforcement investigations and in preventing future crimes; especially in tracking perpetrators of child sexual abuse and exploitation and safeguarding the victims and survivors. #SaveTheDate 📅 The HEROES Manual for Early Identification of Potential Victims of Trafficking in Human Beings (THB), Child Sexual Abuse and Child Sexual Exploitation (CSA/E) will be released soon: - The Manual is designed to help frontline responders identify potential victims of THB and CSA/E early. It's meant for various practitioners like law enforcement, NGOs, and educational professionals, health professionals, aiding them in detecting and referring victims to support services. 🔗 Discover more about the HEROES project at: https://lnkd.in/diEnKVkv 🔗 Explore the HEROES project work and activities at: https://heroes-fct.eu/ #WTISD #Migration #ICTs #THB Universidad Complutense de Madrid Fundación Renacer International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children Trilateral Research Centre for Women and Children Studies (CWCS) ICMPD_THB
