Yesterday, we celebrated our new Level II Trauma Center that will officially open on July 1 to care for life-threatening injuries, close to home. This was a wonderful day for our residents who previously had to be transported out of the area for trauma care, which can take ambulances 45-75 minutes in traffic. Trauma services will be available around-the-clock for high-risk injuries that can happen at a moment’s notice. Trauma centers are distinct areas of a hospital emergency department staffed by a team of specially trained health professionals who treat life-threatening injuries. WHHS CEO Kimberly Hartz, WTHCD Board President Dr. Jacob Eapen, and trauma medical director Dr. Chet Morrison, joined Alameda County Health EMS Director Lauri McFadden, and trauma survivor Jorge Nava, with his wife Daisy to share his trauma journey to recovery.
