Ben Marcus, MPP was detailed with USDA's Center for Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships at the end of last year to help build an initial strategy for USDA to provide more equitable access to our programs and the marketplace for halal and kosher observant people. As the Senior Advisor for Regulatory Affairs in the Office of the Secretary at USDA, Gregory Jaffe works on a broad portfolio of issues that include bioeconomy, biotechnology, biofuels, pesticides, PFAS, food safety, research, education and economics. Greg is also the Department’s regulatory officer, managing regulatory docket and working on regulations at other agencies that impact equities and stakeholders (such as rules at EPA and FDA).

In his most recent detailing to USDA’s Office of External and Intergovernmental Affairs, Center for Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, Joseph Ira Heller supported implementing USDA’s action items in the U.S. National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism. This included training for Land Grant Universities on antisemitism and related biases, collaborating with USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture 4-H program to introduce youth awareness of these issues, and hosting youth at USDA Headquarters to hear their perspective on how USDA can promote inclusivity and welcoming communities.

USDA is offering $22.3 million in grants to provide training, outreach and technical assistance to help underserved and veteran farmers, ranchers and foresters. Funding is made to qualified organizations through USDA’s 2501 Program, which is administered by the USDA Office of Partnerships and Public Engagement. USDA’s 2501 Program grants can support workshops and demonstrations on various farming techniques, conferences, technical assistance and more. Grantees also help connect underserved farmers and ranchers to USDA resources and services. Since 2010, the 2501 Program has provided more than $194 million dollars to fund more than 615 projects.
