In this recent The ASCO Post report, four experts in oncology and health equity discussed the future of oncology — from eliminating the disproportionate burden of cancer on minority populations to preventative care strategies. Here are some of the highlights: - There is no one-size-fits-all cancer care model. There will be a growing need for care models that reflect the complexity of the specific cancer type. - Cancer costs are continuing to rise, but value-based arrangements are gaining popularity because of its ability to bring down total cost of care. - Strengthening local healthcare networks will help mitigate disparities for people living in medically underserved communities As an oncology value-based enabler, Thyme Care partners with organizations to offer a scalable care model and proactively provide personalized, high-quality support for our members. https://lnkd.in/ezkqDArV

📢 Today, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced it is opening up its value-based cancer care model, the Enhancing Oncology Model (EOM) to another pool of applicants and making improvements to the current model. 👏🏾 This is a major step forward in making value-based cancer care more accessible to practices. We applaud CMS’ efforts and are excited about what this means for practices currently in the EOM and for others considering joining. Let’s break down today’s update. ⬇️ ☑ Oncology clinics that initially opted out of EOM in July 2023 have an opportunity to reconsider. New applicants can begin participating in July 2025.  ☑ CMS recognizes the financial support practices need to provide comprehensive cancer care support and is increasing MEOS payments from $70 PBPM to $110 PBPM. For dually eligible beneficiaries, the MEOS payment will increase from $100 per beneficiary per month to $140 per beneficiary per month. ☑ The threshold for repayment back to CMS has become more favorable for practices, as they will now need to repay CMS when costs exceed 100% of their calculated benchmark as opposed to 98% of their benchmark. ☑ EOM will be extended for another two years for all participants, thus ending in June 2030. Thyme Care currently supports practices in the EOM to reduce the technical, operational, and financial complexity and improve the quality of care for patients. We look forward to supporting more practices who chose to join this new cohort.  Have questions about EOM and how Thyme Care can support? Reach out to https://lnkd.in/g3sct43J. The traditional cancer care management model of managing cancer care isn't doing enough to move the needle on cost and outcomes. We need a better way to keep cost of care in check, while simultaneously improving the patient experience. Here’s how. ⤵️ 😊 24/7 Wraparound Support | Our dedicated Care Team provides comprehensive care support to address all clinical and non-clinical needs unique to the cancer journey. 👨💻 Purpose-Built Technology | Our intelligent care delivery platform provides data-driven guidance at scale, while Thyme Care Connect, our member-facing hub, drives patient engagement. 👩⚕️ Deep Provider Coordination | We build relationships with oncology providers to ensure our model is delivered in close coordination with the member's oncologist. 🤯 Cancer care costs are SKYROCKETING, placing an unbearable burden on patients, providers, and payers alike. Many attempts have been made to improve the patient experience and reduce cancer care costs. Most have failed. ⁉ Why? ➡ Because patients often encounter fragmented support and coordination gaps between visits, resulting in higher hospitalization rates and increased healthcare expenses. Managing the complexity of cancer diagnosis requires personalized care plans, 24/7 support and navigation, and a combination of clinical and non-clinical care. This is the approach Thyme Care is taking by partnering with oncologists nationwide to deliver comprehensive cancer care support, both in and out of the clinic. 🤝 ❗ Our provider-centric approach is the reason we’ve secured investment from CVS Health Ventures and Echo Health Ventures, the strategic investment platform investing on behalf of multiple Blues health plans. This investment is a milestone moment for Thyme Care, driven by our commitment to working with partners dedicated to rethinking how we deliver and pay for cancer care. Palliative care is shown to improve health outcomes for individuals with cancer and other serious illnesses, increase patient and caregiver satisfaction with treatment options, and reduce costs across the care continuum. 😨 But only 12% of patients who could benefit from palliative care receive services. Why?! 1️⃣ Patient misperceptions: Patients correlate palliative care with hospice/end of life care. Fear and other emotions prevent them from having open conversations about supportive care early on. 2️⃣ Clinician shortages + palliative care deserts: There are not enough board certified Palliative Care Docs in many places, especially in rural areas which widen equity and access issues. There are attempts to train oncologists to do this themselves where necessary. 3️⃣ Provider misconceptions: Some providers think they do not need a specialized palliative care team. They want to lead the conversation, they don’t see the value in investing in a specialized team, or they don’t have the resources or bandwidth to do so. You don’t know what you don’t know. We’re working to change the narrative around palliative care, by offering it as a core service offering to eligible members. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gFZZfeWu.

We support the new American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) guidelines for palliative care, which recommend early intervention and access to a trained clinician. That's why we've incorporated #palliativecare into our oncology care model, ensuring members and their caregivers get access to specialized psychosocial-emotional support as they navigate living with cancer.

"You have cancer" are words you never want to hear. Receiving this life-changing diagnosis is an emotionally fraught and vulnerable time for patients and their loved ones; they shouldn't have to carry the financial burden of the disease as well. When Chad Welch was diagnosed with Acute Mylogenous Leukemia he was bothered by the idea that some people might have to undergo treatment without insurance, or without friends or family to help them through it. When he eventually lost his battle, his friends and family were inspired to provide essential support to cancer patients and their families who suffer financial hardship during treatment. "Team Chad" was launched to accomplish this mission. I was nominated by @Stephen Schleicher from @Tennessee Oncology to join the board of Ambassadors for the American Cancer Society as a representative of @Thyme Care and thanks to Emily Walker’s leadership, and most importantly all those that attended #SipSupportCelebrate, Team Chad raised $25,000 to help minimize the financial toxicity associated with cancer for patients and their loved ones by supporting the @American Cancer Society and their Hope Lodge here in Nashville, TN. I'm proud to support such an important mission and to play a small role in helping people like Chad get the care and support they need.
