Throughout the month of May, we honored Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month (#APIHM) in the United States and Asian Heritage Month in Canada with a variety of engaging events curated by our Asian employee network co-leads Jessica Simington and Jack Lo. This included a fireside chat with Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC leadership, moderated by Yang Cheng, a spotlight on and lumpia cooking demo with content creator and Sony enthusiast Philip Lemoine, a discussion on reclaiming one’s culture with Jack Lo, a mentorship mixer and conversation on API representation in the corporate world with Yukio Ishikawa and yuko sakamaki, and an insightful panel with Sony storytellers Scott Robert Lim, Daniel Pak and Ziqi Yang. At Sony, we deeply value our Asian Pacific Islander communities in the United States and Canada, and recognize their significant influence within our organization and beyond. As #APIHM comes to an end, we're reaffirming our commitment to fostering a sense of belonging, safety, support, and understanding for our API colleagues, not only during APIHM but year-round.

Say hello to Jack Lo, co-lead of our Asian employee network (eNet). Jack says that witnessing the growth of the employee network has been a significant achievement, and he's proud to have established a safe place where employees can unite to share their personal experiences and offer support. This Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month (#APIHM), Jack is excited about the API Storyteller Panel, in which guest panelists in the creative space will answer questions and share stories that are deeply personal, insightful, and thought-provoking. #TeamSony

Last week, #TeamSony came together for a Global Accessibility Awareness Day (#GAAD) celebration with the theme "Designing for Diversity." The event featured guest speaker Sean Dougherty from LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired, an organization that promotes the equality, independence, and self-reliance of people who are blind or visually impaired. The event also invited employees to explore our #accessibility initiatives, demo accessible Sony products, and learn about our work with advocacy groups such as the Braille Institute of America and Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA). Thank you to our Accessibility employee network for organizing this meaningful event. #diversity #disabilityinclusion #inclusivedesign

A #SonyCreateAction grantee, Black Girls Film Camp, Inc. Camp is a 12-week film incubator for high school girls selected from across the country who have their short film produced and supported by the program. https://lnkd.in/ge5U7cAh “To know that [the girls] are valued, feel visible, and that their stories matter – that’s what I want them to experience immediately from this program,” said Dr. Jimmeka Anderson, Executive Director of Black Girls Film Camp. “After this program I want them to be more confident to create because we need more stories—their stories—that are visible to the world.” As recipients of the grant, the organization received $50,000 in cash to continue and expand their work, $50,000 in Sony Electronics products to support their action plan, and this Sony-produced short film to tell their story.
