Drones delivering blood are transforming maternal and newborn care at Mahama camp, Rwanda's biggest refugee camp❤️ Before the renovations of the Mahama medical centre in 2023, all patients needing blood transfusions, including women suffering from postpartum hemorrhaging, were taken to Kirehe District Hospital, a journey that took 2 hours by road. Now, through our partnership with US drone company Zipline, we are able to use drones to restock blood supplies in 30 min, meaning woman won't have to endure long hours of travel for specialist care anymore. Access to maternal and newborn healthcare is an essential right for all women and mothers, including refugees. • For over 8 months, families in #Gaza have faced ongoing bombing, killing and displacement💔 Children have lost their homes, family and any sense of safety. 1.3 million people, just like Bisan, are now living in camps that aren't safe for children. Food and water are still lacking. There are no schools, hospitals, sanitation facilities or safe places for children to play. 8 month on, with nowhere safe for children, we need a #CeasefireNow. It is the only way to save lives. Join our call today👉 https://lnkd.in/e4k26Pqn

  • The Israeli security forces, Qassam Brigades (Hamas) and Al-Quds Brigades (Islamic Jihad) have been included in the UN CAAC report, its list of groups who committed grave violations against children in armed conflict 2023.⚠️ Every time perpetrators are shielded from accountability, it fuels a climate of impunity. This is a vital step towards holding these actors to account. A formal mechanism for monitoring and reporting crimes against children in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory must be established.

  • Our Child Friendly Spaces might look like simple play areas, but they are so much more ✨ Step inside and discover the power of a safe place to play👉 https://lnkd.in/e9UxfupN Around the world, children are enduring a terrifying routine of relentless fighting and violations of their rights. Their lives are being ripped apart by wars and climate disasters, hunger and disease. But children are resilient. They just need safety and stability in order to recover. Our mental health programmes are often delivered through our Child-Friendly Spaces. These are safe places were children can redevelop emotional relationships and resume social practices that have been interrupted by war and climate disasters. In countries like Syria, Ukraine, Somalia and Yemen, we are supporting children's #mentalhealth through:🎨Art, ⚽️Sport,🧸Play and 🎲Games. In our Child Friendly Spaces there is something for everyone - for the artists and animal lovers as well as for the playful and sporty ones❤️ Explore inside a Child Friendly Space⤵️

  • Today marks the first-EVER International Day of Play, which has been declared by the United Nations General Assembly to champion and protect children's right to play. 🎉 🎈 The Day of Play on 11 June was added to the list of global annual observances recognised by the United Nations, following a successful campaign by Save the Children, the LEGO Group and The LEGO Foundation and other partners, to recognise play as a critical developmental activity for children. There are so many reasons we should all be celebrating the power of play: ✔ Through play, children can make better sense of their world ✔ Explore emotions and experiences ✔ Communicate feelings and thoughts This is especially powerful in times of crisis.💌 But in many parts of the world, play is viewed simply as something to keep children occupied. It is not seen as a right. Around the world, children’s access to and experience of play differs enormously and play often faces similar barriers to other rights Save the Children strives to protect – barriers associated to gender, age, socio-economic status, disability, perceived value. ➡️ 1 in 3 children and young people do not have the time to play. ➡️ 1 in 5 lack safe spaces to play ➡️ 1 in 5 have no one to play with It’s more critical than ever that every child can realise and celebrate their universal right to play. #InternationalDayofPlay

  • Right now, more than 468 million children - more than 1 in 6 - are living in a conflict zone⚠️ Attacks on their homes, schools and healthcare facilities mean children live in constant fear. Regardless of geopolitical dynamics and interests, children caught up in conflicts globally, should receive the attention, solidarity and protection they are entitled to. Children in #Gaza, Sudan, #DRC, Ukraine, Haiti must be protected from the physical and emotional wounds of war❤️ We must #StopTheWarOnChildren. The relocation orders and increased attacks in #Rafah, have forced nearly 800,000 people to flee again. The new displacement areas are overcrowded, dirty and lack resources like clean water, food, and sanitation facilities. These aren't safe places for children, but there's nowhere safe left in #Gaza⚠️ Children are dying of malnutrition, dehydration and disease, and their mental health has been pushed beyond breaking point. This is appalling but entirely preventable. Children need more aid and a definitive #CeasefireNow. Listen to Bisan and share to raise awareness ⬇️

  • Did you know 774 million children – a third of all children– face the dual threat of poverty and high climate risk?⚠ Our climate is changing too fast for families to adapt to it and those children already facing hunger and conflict, poverty and discrimination are suffering most of all. Their homes, schools and playgrounds are being washed away by floods. Drought is turning fields, food and jobs to dust. Heatwaves and diseases are stealing young lives. This is alarming, but there’s still time to change course. As the world’s leading experts on children’s rights, we’re working with children to transform their lives and futures through new, climate-smart solutions, across all our work 💪 Leaders and experts at the Bonn Climate Conference must remember children are bearing the brunt of this crisis and must do more to put them at the centre of #ClimateAction! Read the experiences of children in the world's most climate-vulnerable countries ⬇ #ClimateCrisis

  • Conflict-induced hunger is on the rise: in 2023, conflict was the primary cause of food insecurity for 135 million people globally ⚠ This week marks the sixth anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 2417, which provides an important framework to advance this agenda. So far, the resolution has not been used enough to accelerate progress. A lot more can be done to leverage it and protect civilians against food insecurity and hunger in areas in conflict. Together with Action Against Hunger | ACF-USA, Oxfam, World Food Programme, FAO and World Vision we've produced this report with guidance and recommendations on how best to implement UNSCR 2417 to achieve more meaningful progress.
