On Wednesday, Related California, Mercy Housing and community leaders celebrated the "topping out” of the two newest affordable communities in the multi-phase Sunnydale HOPE SF revitalization. Formerly known as Block 3A and 3B, Amani and Nia will provide 170 apartment homes for low-income families and 24,000 of ground floor retail and community serving space including a childcare center (Felton Institute) and a health and wellness center. The Sunnydale HOPE SF revitalization effort is led by Related California and Mercy Housing California, in collaboration with the San Francisco Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) and Housing Authority of the City and County of San Francisco (SFHA), to transform the 50-acre Sunnydale-Velasco public housing community into a vibrant mixed-income neighborhood with 1,700 new affordable and market rate homes. Yesterday, Related California and the City of Santa Rosa celebrated the Topping Out of a much-anticipated, market-rate housing development at 420 Mendocino Avenue in the heart of Downtown Santa Rosa. The new eight-story, 168-unit building will include a mix of thoughtfully-designed apartments with a new restaurant on the ground floor and residential amenities including a co-working lounge, fitness center, and club room with panoramic views of the City. We’re proud to add to the city’s vibrant core while setting set a new benchmark for residential living in Santa Rosa.   Thank you to the city and our other funding partners East West Bank, Preferred Bank, and RED Housing Fund for helping us reach this milestone. Earlier this week, Related California and its partners celebrated the grand opening of Meridian, a landmark affordable housing development aimed at serving low-income families and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Sunnyvale.   A public-private partnership with the City of Sunnyvale, Affordable Housing Access, Inc., and the County of Santa Clara Office of Supportive Housing, Meridian provides high-quality, walkable homes in Downtown Sunnyvale with on-site social services for all residents as well as services for residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.   This final milestone is a testament to the collaboration with our extensive list of public and private funding partners: County of Santa Clara, Santa Clara County Housing Authority, San Andreas Regional Center (SARC), California Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Wells Fargo, Citi, Housing Trust Silicon Valley, and Google.   Thank you to Housing Choices, Steinberg Hart, Project Access, and CORE Builders. Related Bristol, a proposed $2.9 billion mixed-use development in south Santa Ana, was featured today at the Orange County Forum’s luncheon as part of the new series: "Transforming OC.” More than 150 county leaders and stakeholders attended and listened to a panel discussion about the development’s unprecedented $500M package of economic and community benefits for the city and the region. Related Bristol will deliver up to 3,750 residential units, 350,000 SF of retail, 200 units of senior housing, and a hotel on South Bristol Street across from South Coast Plaza. The planned urban village will replace an existing 50-year-old shopping center on 41 acres between Sunflower Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard. As discussed by presenters and panelists, the project is likely to become a model of future growth in Orange County, where historically low vacancy rates and the soaring cost to buy a home has created a severe housing shortage in one of the nation’s most desirable places to live in. Today's panelists included moderator Vikki Vargas, former veteran TV news reporter; Richard Green, Director and Chair, USC Lusk Center for Real Estate; Gino A. Canori, President, Related California; and William Witte, Chairman/CEO, Related California. The OC Forum is the premier nonpartisan current affairs organization convening Orange County leaders to discuss key issues.

The affordable housing crisis is a statewide issue, one that includes rural and resort communities like South Lake Tahoe.   Related California – in partnership with Saint Joseph Community Land Trust, the State of California, City of South Lake Tahoe, and Tahoe Regional Planning Agency – is developing Sugar Pine Village, 248 units of affordable housing, and an excellent example of the power of partnership and an innovative spirit to address the challenges associated with building new affordable workforce housing. The first 68 units of housing are nearing completion in the fall. We are proud to be making progress in bringing critical workforce housing to South Lake Tahoe.

Related California and Burbank Housing celebrated the grand opening of the first phase of Laurel at Perennial Park at the site of the former Journey’s End mobile home park in Santa Rosa, which was tragically destroyed in the 2017 Tubbs wildfire. A symbol of wildfire recovery in Sonoma County, the development is a community-driven effort to rebuild critical affordable senior housing in the wake of climate disaster and a testament to the power of public-private partnerships to address the challenges of climate change and create a resilient and thriving community near transit access and healthcare amenities.    The development was made possible with the partnerships of Congressman Mike Thompson, the City of Santa Rosa, the County of Sonoma, California Treasurer Fiona Ma, the California Department of Housing & Community Development, and Kaiser Permanente, all of whom supported efforts to quickly deploy disaster recovery funding to make this ambitious redevelopment a reality.    The newly-opened first and second phases of the development include 132 units of affordable senior homes. Phase III will create an additional 30 units and is currently being financed.    Thank you to Enterprise Community Partners, Banner Bank, and Morgan Stanley for additional financing, our general contractor Nibbi Brothers General Contractors, and architect Van Meter Williams Pollack (VMWP).

Governor Newsom’s signing of SB423 is an incredible victory for affordable housing in California.
