☀ Did you know that heat ranks amongst the deadliest of all climate-driven hazards in California? And communities that have been historically under-resourced are the ones most impacted? The last day in May is National Heat Awareness Day and is a time to bring attention to the dangers of heat exposure, while also offering education on ways to stay safe. The California Strategic Growth Council’s #ClimateChange Research Program (CCR) has funded several projects related to extreme heat research, solutions, and prevention resources. One such resource is the Cal-THRIVES Toolkit for Heat Resilience in Underserved Environments. Use today to educate yourself on ways to stay safe, and look-out for those most sensitive to heat exposure (older populations, infants and children, pregnant people, people with chronic illness, and those who work outside). #TheMoreYouKnow #HeatAwarenessDay #ClimateEquity

So proud of our Executive Fellows and their presentations on how California can close the digital divide! Both the California Strategic Growth Council and the Governor's Office of Planning and Research (OPR) participate in the Executive Fellowship Program. This program allows California State University-Sacramento students to be placed with a mentor in one of California’s Executive Branches. Executive Fellows function as full-time professional staff in these offices while meeting weekly for graduate seminars in Public Policy and Administration. Great job, Alex Walker, Camille Randolph & Maya Hsu!! #FutureLeaders
Congratulations to the extraordinary #Fellows who briefed their final presentations for the Executive Fellowship Program yesterday! California Strategic Growth Council Fellows Alex Walker and Camille Randolph, alongside Maya Hsu, shared their ideas about how California can close its #digitaldivide. In addition to funding solutions, they also recommended #publicprivatepartnerships, #networkredundancies and #resiliencyplans. These rockstar #ExecutiveFellows spend 10 months working on high-level government work, bringing their talent and ideas to #stategovernment, while also learning more about public work. #TransformingFresno! Get a look at Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) funding at work! ✂ They cut the ribbon at the St. Rest + Food to Share Hub in Southwest Fresno this month, and now the 6,800 square foot site is open for business! What used to be the Farmer John Meat Company Warehouse on the 23-hundred block of Elm Avenue has been transformed not only into a healthy food rescue/redistribution hub, but a 3.14-acre community campus which includes outdoor green spaces and a commercial community kitchen! This project will result in the annual recovery of more than one million pounds of nutritious food, that would otherwise be wasted, by getting that food to families that face food insecurities and lack the financial means to purchase healthy food. This food rescue and redistribution to underserved and disadvantaged families will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by an estimated 2.2 million pounds per-year! The City of Fresno received a $66.5 million, TCC grant to implement projects that have been identified through a community-driven planning processes that achieve significant greenhouse gas reduction benefits, improve #PublicHealth and #environmental benefits, and expand economic opportunity and shared #prosperity. Overall, St. Rest + Food to Share Hub not only provides significant reductions in GHG emission but also expands capacities to meet significant health and nutrition needs in Southwest Fresno and across the metropolitan area! Thanks for sharing the news Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission (Fresno EOC)! 🎉 #ClimateResiliency Department of Conservation (DOC)
