When Kiewit acquired Weeks Marine, Inc., it brought together ENR's top two marine contractors, resulting in a maritime powerhouse. “Before Weeks, Kiewit performed a number of marine projects on both the east and west coast and in the Gulf of Mexico, but most of that work was in support of heavy, large construction projects. However, the acquisition of Weeks has really put us in a different position, specifically in dredging projects around North America.” - Executive Vice President Dave Miles As a result of the acquisition, Kiewit added an eighth market — marine services. Within this market, we focus on three key areas: coastal resiliency, dredging and marine construction. Read more about the work we're doing and our impressive marine fleet: https://bit.ly/4cKnToN

“We would not be able to accomplish what we did without the remarkable people we had on the team, including the 400 local union tradespeople and the 200 subcontractors and suppliers who came together with our construction and engineering staff to achieve a common goal.” - Kiewit Executive Vice President Doug Glaser The Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) has selected the Federal Way Link Extension Project, located in Federal Way, Washington, as the Envision Platinum Award recipient for sustainable infrastructure. This prestigious recognition is based on an assessment of 64 criteria and is a testament to the combined efforts of Sound Transit and the entire project team in their commitment to improving social, economic and environmental conditions of the community. As the design-build contractor, our scope of work includes constructing a 7.8-mile light rail extension with three new stations. The project is expect to open in 2026. One of our latest projects in British Columbia is the Dewdney Bridge Replacement, which will protect a vital connection for area communities. Originally built in 1958, Dewdney Bridge connects Highway 7 and includes a connection to Highway 1. The bridge is near the end of its serviceable life, and the most cost-effective decision was to replace the bridge. The new bridge structure will provide higher clearance for river navigation, improve the environmental impact of the river crossings, ensure an alternative route in case Highway 1 closes, and accommodate all bridge users. Currently, the project is just starting the construction of the first in-water pier falsework, which will continue for the next two months on all project piers. Crews recently completed the east abutment ground improvement work and are starting to import dike fill to build the new dike on the east side. With the completion of the ground improvement works on the east side, the team will mobilize its 300-ton crane to the west abutment to start ground improvements there. The bridge remains open while our team is working on the replacement. Completion is scheduled for fall 2026.

"I was employed at a community college, working with educators in the construction program, when a Kiewit recruiter called me about a job opportunity. At first, I wasn’t sure I wanted to change jobs, but I’ve always heard good things about Kiewit, so I went for it. I haven’t looked back since." Cat King joined Kiewit in 2022 as an instructional designer. She says three things really excited her about the company: the culture, the focus on innovative training design and the opportunity to make an impact for our craft workforce. "The culture suits me. The business takes care of its people, and its people take care of business. I like the honesty of the work, the integrity of the people I work with, and the opportunities to achieve big goals fast. I’ve never worked harder, and I’ve never had so much fun doing it." Cat played an important role in launching the Concrete Craft Training Program, which provides hands-on activities to teach technical skills, along with lessons to build leadership skills for craft workers with the hope of advancing their careers. "We created training materials in Spanish to remove barriers to learning. We also made the training portable so that we can deliver a mobile training facility to a job site and provide training at the right time and right place for those who need it most." Because of Cat's hard work on the program, she was awarded the 2023 Learning and Development Innovator of the Year award from the Association of Talent Development (ATD). "Sometimes the work feels like a mountain, but I work with some world-class mountain climbers. Every training project is a new adventure with unique challenges and a different path to the peak. The view from the summit is amazing, but it’s so much better when you have friends who have climbed to the top with you. I am so lucky to be here, in this place, with these people, at this time in my life. I love working at Kiewit!"

The Franklin Water Reclamation Expansion Project is now complete, featuring a new biosolids treatment system that's helping modernize solid processing operations. As the general contractor on the project, Kiewit was tasked with renovating the existing facility in Franklin, Tennessee, to meet the city's growing demand, improve water quality and public health benefits and preserve its water resources. One of the facility’s additions includes a thermal hydrolysis system, which produces a Class A (exceptional quality) biosolid that can be land-applied or further processed into marketable fertilizer products. This greatly reduces the cost of hauling and the disposal of biosolids in landfills. This system also enhances biogas production for use as a renewable energy source. Over the last four years, our work also included: · The construction of a headworks structure · Modifications to existing BNR basins · A new equalization tank with mixing capabilities · Odor control system upgrades · Pump station improvements · New electrical equipment and distribution system · New UV disinfection facility This all occurred while the facility maintained operations. These additions mean enhanced environmental performance to minimize ecological footprint, including energy-efficient equipment, state-of-the-art technology and increased capacity. The facility will now be able to treat 16 million gallons of wastewater every day. Below, you’ll see a picture of our project team from the recent ribbon-cutting ceremony. Congratulations to the residents of Franklin, our client and the crew who worked incredibly hard on this project!
