About us

The Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) was founded in 2021 and is led by Adobe, BBC, Google, Intel, Microsoft, Publicis Groupe, Sony, and Truepic. C2PA members work together to create open and interoperable technical standards for establishing digital content provenance and authenticity. The specifications are informed by scenarios, workflows, and requirements gathered from industry experts and partner organizations. The C2PA’s current work focuses on technical specifications for declaring the source and history (or provenance) of digital content in a tamper-evident manner. Content Credentials are the C2PA’s technical standard for tamper-resistant metadata that can be attached across various content types, including images, audio, video, and documents. Content Credentials function like a nutrition label for digital content, allowing creators to attach provenance to their content, such as creation date, tools used, and details of edits made along the way. In addition, a variety of open-source libraries and toolkits exist to enable anyone to integrate content provenance across web, desktop, and mobile implementations.
