Would that be possible?” "I'm interested in discussing potential resources or accommodations that could help support my well-being at work. Picture this: A coworker appears more stressed or down than usual, and it's got you concerned. You want to help, but you're not sure how to approach the situation without overstepping. Here are some gentle ways to offer support in a professional environment: - Ask (gentle) questions: Express your concern without assumptions. You might say something like: "I noticed you’ve been more quiet than usual. Is there anything going on that I can help with?" - Validate their emotions: Some people may not want a problem-solve as much as a helping ear. Try saying: “I can’t imagine how difficult that must be for you” or “I hear you” - Ask how you can help: Let your coworker know you're available to help, but respect their boundaries if they decline. - Know your limits: If a coworker is asking for more support than you can give, let them know you care about what they’re going through but try to direct them to other sources of support – like a company-sponsored mental health line, a crisis line, or an anonymous reporting system. Thank you BetterHelp Business for inviting me to join a conversation about why using data from asking the RIGHT questions, AND, developing communication skills are both critical to improving #MentalHealthAtWork . As a former mental health therapist, supporting this event was AWESOME! 🎉 I'm so appreciative that online therapy platforms are starting to focus more on improving workplace mental health. And, that I could support this endeavor with a purpose-driven organization aiming to make a big impact in that space too. A big thank you to BetterHelp's Demand Generation Manager, Jerry Dweck, for our meaningful fireside interview. And Kerry Gross, Director of Research Intelligence from Employee Benefit News, for her impactful data narrative! #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealth Arizent
