This conversation will bring together established Trust and Safety professionals Juliet Shen and Patricia Cartes Andrés as they share their journey into the field Trust and Safety. With almost 30 years of professional experience in tech between the two of them, Shen and Cartes will share career advice, what makes their role exciting, the challenges they face, how trust and safety has evolved over the years, and some considerations to make for anyone interested in getting involved in the field of trust and safety. Moderated by Matt Soeth (All Tech Is Human Head of Trust & Safety and Global Affairs) Juliet Shen is currently leading a research initiative as the Product Lead for the Trust and Safety Tools Consortium hosted at Columbia University and serves on the Community Advisory Board for the Integrity Institute. She was most recently a Product lead at Google where she works on scaled spam and abuse. Prior to Google, Juliet was the Director of Product for Trust & Safety at Grindr and an early member of Snapchat’s Trust & Safety team as its first Product Manager. Throughout her career, she has led the development of child abuse detection and enforcement, internal investigation tools, and machine learning classifiers with a special focus on bridging cross-disciplinary challenges. Patricia Cartes Andrés started working in the technology industry in 2006 when she joined Google's Webspam team. After building an expertise in site integrity, she joined Facebook as one of the founding members of the company’s Trust & Safety operations in EMEA to combat harassment, child sexual exploitation, human rights violations and other types of harmful content. In 2013 she started working at Twitter where she led the company’s global safety outreach efforts creating Twitter’s Trust & Safety Council and engaging with online safety organizations, academics, policy-makers and regulators. Most recently, she has headed up Trust & Safety teams at Postmates by Uber and VSCO. She currently works as a Trust & Safety and policy advisor for a number of technology companies.
