Ok everyone real talk for a sec, do we think that gooning as an online movement can be seen as a response to all that 2010’s nofap and “porn-addiction” shit or nah? To me it reads as a counter movement but I might just be nightposting again.
very great coverage of stalkerware use by government workers in australia, im very happy to have worked with crikey to make this reporting possible!
Honestly I’m not. The Australian police force have often been very open about the fact that they’re scum. From NSW strip search laws, to the fact that not a single cop has ever been held accountable for an Indigenous death in custody, these cops don’t feel the need to pretend they aren’t bastards.
It’s kinda wild that Spec Ops: The Line exists actually. Imagine how brave you’d have to be to make a game about how glorifying war is bad, warcrimes are still bad even when the “good guys” do them, and the fact that any person who went through the sort of shit a 2000’s-2010’s military shooter protag did would be traumatised as fuck actually. Now imagine how brave you’d have to be to do that during the peak of CoD’s popularity, and during a climate fuelled by hyper jingoistic war on terror rhetoric (that second bit hasn’t changed much). Imagine also doing all this knowing that the target audiance for this game was a cohort of 15ish year old American boys who loved punching holes in drywall and screaching the hard R into online voice chats.
Anyone got metal/techno/breakcore/loud stuff recs?
Needa not think about ex
I belive I could be of assistance here. Loud EDM makes up the majority of what I listen to. Going to try for some variety here:
"We Came to Gangbang" gets it's own special mention because it's the 1st track on Goreshit's Goretrance 9, and honestly if you fuck with it just go listen to the whole album, it's one of those albums where all the songs kind of blend together, it has some quieter moments, but it's great for scratching a very specific itch, especially the first 4 tracks IMO(We Came to Gangbang, Bad Habits, Burn Shit Up, and the Dancecore Element.)
Also, here's a whole ass DJ set from DJ Chaotic Ugly (AKA Machine Girl), something longer to chew on:
It's one of their more high energy sets. There was another one I was considering, but it was very evidently made during the 2020 lockdowns, and maybe you don't need to be thinking about Covid rn.
Fuck yessssss
Bunch of these are by my favs but tracks I hadn't come across
Kissing you on the forehead platonically
You know what? Since I seem to have what you’re looking for I’ve decided to share some more recommendations:
Also here is that set I mentioned in the last post, it’s a collaboration between DJ Chaotic Ugly and another artist going by DJ MAGGY. Again, very evidently made during Covid Lockdowns:
so the average american is not aware of the controversy surrounding jk rowling, like this is a very online kind of knowledge to have. I mean that there are people who fully know I'm trans who talk about harry potter to me and there's no awareness of any of the discourse surrounding the work that's been going on for years, and idk where I'm going with this but sometimes there's a huge gulf between what we expect people to naturally know by virtue of us being on tumblr versus people who are not

🎶✨when you get this, put 5 songs you actually listen to, then publish. Send this ask to 10 of your favorite followers/mutuals (negotiable, dont feel pressured or anything lol)✨🎶
Uhhh, I’m an EDM enjoyer, so my taste in music is kinda fucked. I will try to provide some variety though:
1. Chrysalis by purity://filter (From the imago EP):
This is purity://filter’s most popular track, and for good reason. It’s hard to find a word that I feel describes this track. I looked pretty hard for a word and I feel like superlunary kinda describes this track (or at least how it feels to me).
2. Necro Culture Vulture by Machine Girl (From The Ugly Art):
Time for some good ole fashioned tonal whiplash! This is a Digital Hardcore track. This track is one of my favourites because I not only saw it performed live at Machine Girl’s Sydney show, but I was in the pit as Matt (the main force behind Machine Girl) was moving around the pit and was practically right next to me for the entire track.
I experienced collective effervescence to this song.
3. weird circle by Rory in early 20s (Single):
This track has such a weird vibe (in a good way). The way it sounds (especially in the beginning) kinda makes me think of old school pulpy sci-fi horror, alien invasion kinda stuff. Does that make sense or am I weird for that?
4: Delusional Standards by Filmmaker (From Motion Pictures Regime):
This was a hard pick, there’s a lot of good stuff on Motion Pictures Regime, and I really wanted a track that captured Filmmakers weird distinctive vibe, which almost kinda feels darkly sexy (I once heard somebody describe it as scary sex dungeon music). I’m not sure if this track is the best pick for that, but it is one of my favourites, so…
Lastly, it feels like It would be a bit of a letdown to say that I like EDM and then simply not include a certified NEURONE ACTIVATOR!!! on this list. And so, I present a song that I haven’t listened to in quite a while but that certainly does fill that NEURONE ACTIVATOR!!! niche, here we go:
5: Fifth Grade by Goreshit (From Tomboyish Love for Soda Pop and Apple Sweets (Digipak) ):
This track almost fucking wiped me the fuck out the first time I heard it. It starts off as just a sample from Azumanga Daioh, and then you hear the fucking Amen Break starting to come in, and then it stops, right before everything goes to SHIT! It’s fucking nuts, the first time I heard this track I felt my fucking pupils dilate as I was blasted by pure auditory stimuli. It feels like Goreshit made this track for the sake of self parody, it’s absurd, I laughed while listening to this for the first time. It’s funny as fuck to slip into other peoples playlists and just watch as confusion turns to panic.
Is it a good track? Probably not, it’s not exactly complex, it’s trashy doof doof music. Goreshit’s more recent work (like the stuff on the propa bo! EP) is 100% more palatable and probably just better musically, but holy fuck Fifth Grade is the archetypal old school Goreshit track. It is 100% a neurone activator.
This was Goreshit’s My Love Feels All Wrong weeb shit era. It’s probably good that we have moved beyond that era, but good god was it just a whole lot of dumb fun.
Holy shit, Chainsaw man Chapter 170 just dropped and I don’t remember the last time my jaw legitimately dropped like it just did now. Poor Denji is having everything he loves torn away from him again. Even greater pain and suffering from here on out I guess.
