🌅 Summer has arrived in Sweden! And how to better celebrate this than with barbeque and drinks on the rooftop, a Star Wars themed scavenger hunt throughout the studio, eating ice cream, singing karaoke, playing retro games, and getting on the dance floor? Last Friday, we invited our dear colleagues at Ubisoft Stockholm down to Massive to join us in the studio for an unforgettable evening! ✨

A few weeks ago, the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora team shared artworks from the game. We wanted to explore those more and talked to some of our artists! 🖌️ One of them is Keyla Meijer, Senior Environment Artist on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Keyla’s main goal has always been to ensure the players feel immersed in the world and feel in awe of its beauty. She wants the players to feel as if they had stepped onto Pandora themselves. In her work, Keyla drew inspiration from the team’s concept art, the movies but also from real-life references from our own planet. 🌍 Keyla often starts from what is called a ‘block-out’; the grey box layout from which the environment is eventually built in the engine. She uses different concept arts for reference and starts off with the bigger picture as she starts replacing the grey boxes with art blocks. Major assets are incorporated and eventually, the general composition of the area is defined. Once this is done, details are carefully added to the environment. To ensure the player experience is solid, the environments are always playtested before final incorporation. The process includes several rounds of feedback from multiple stakeholders, set to ensure that the world is stunning while also enhancing the overall player experience. In the end, the world needs to be immersive, feel real and lived in. A place with a purpose. 🎮 🖼️ You can find more of Keyla’s artworks here: https://lnkd.in/ejvEYZ7H
