would be great to know the version tags, so that it can be used in something like lets say homebew.

+1 Would be useful for any packaging. I'll do an Arch PKGBUILD.

Cool, there's now a VERSION file in the root of the repo, git tags, and a --version command line option. Does at least one of those fit homebrew/PKGBUILD?

Great. I'd add in support for installing in OSX via homebrew. will let ya know once I open a pull request on homebrew. Do vote it up there.

Here it is. After this is pulled in, the tutorial for installing on OSX could also be updated. already works for me.

Please take a look into this. This is required for proper packaging on various systems. #16

Great ! You could also prolly update the tutorial page to use brew install jq instead of just downloading binary on OSX.
