Results show that academically high-performing systems don’t always have the most creative students…. …and some systems that ranked highest in creativity don't necessarily have the highest mathematics and reading scores. Teachers, is creativity valued in your classroom? According to the latest PISA, students performed better in the creative thinking test when creativity is valued by their teachers. Beyond teacher attitudes, it is important to include a whole-system approach to support creativity in schools and classrooms. This includes encouraging students’ original ideas and giving them space to express them. See what school systems excelled in student creativity 👉 bit.ly/45dxRvv #CreativeMinds24

What are the characteristics of more creative students? Recently released PISA results from OECD uncovers what attitudes and characteristics align with more creative students. Why is this important? Creative thinking helps prepare young people to adapt to rapidly changing economies and societies. Students will need to rely even more on their capacity for creativity and innovation, as many will likely work in jobs that have not been invented yet. Is creativity something you are born with? New OECD data shows that 15-year-olds who believe this skill can be learned typically outperform students with a fixed mindset on creativity. Meanwhile, students who believe their creativity levels are fixed tend to fall behind in creative performance. The survey results also indicate that excellence in creative thinking isn’t limited to just the top academic performers. Socio-economic disadvantage is hurting students’ ability to think creatively. In all countries and economies participating in the latest PISA, socio-economically advantaged students outperformed their peers in creative tasks. Disadvantaged students often struggle to fully express their creative potential, especially in tasks that require writing. What can education systems do to better close the socio-economic divide? Today is #WorldRefugeeDay. Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has led to the destruction of much of the country’s education system. Thousands of schools and universities have been damaged or destroyed, with teachers, students and parents killed in Russian attacks. With the education of millions of children interrupted, how should policymakers, schools and teachers respond? Last year, Top Class explored how to support the education of Ukrainian children, both inside and outside the country. Frederik Smets, Education Officer at the UN Refugee Agency’s Regional Bureau for Europe, spoke to OECD Editor Duncan Crawford about the challenges children and teachers face and what can be done to help. OECD Education and Skills a republié ceci
Day two of our conference with OECD - OCDE focused on the importance of using evidence to craft education policy – and the role of intermediary organizations in the process. Together, we explored: • How policymakers can effectively leverage data in the decision-making process • How intermediaries and brokers play a crucial role in applying research to policymaking • What comes next in the journey toward creative, evidence-informed education We couldn’t be more grateful for the rich discussions shared over the past two days. Let’s keep the conversation going as we strive to foster creativity in education for the next generation and beyond. #YidanPrize #OECD #CreativeMinds24
