How do I know if I’m obligated?
When it comes to packaging compliance, the following obligations need to be met if you:

- Have a UK presence
- Handle more than 50 tonnes of packaging in the UK calendar year
- Turnover more than £2 million per year

- Meet your packaging recycling obligation by purchasing packaging recycling notes (PRNs)

How does the process work?
Packaging is collected, sorted, and processed ready to be made into more packaging, or something else. This is done by specialist organisations within the UK and internationally. Accredited reprocesses can issue evidence of recycling – these are called Packaging Recycling Notes (PRNs) which producers need to purchase to meet their packaging recycling obligation.
Our procurement manager regularly checks the market to ensure we are paying the best prices for PRNs. The best prices for us means the best price for you!
With an experienced operations team, coupled with a UK-wide network of licensed waste carriers and treatment operators, ERP UK will arrange the collection and treatment of waste packaging from your sites or your customers.
Green Dot
ERP UK offers a Green Dot licence to our members.
What does that mean for you?
The Green Dot is a symbol, that used to be required by some European countries to show that a financial contribution has been made to a national packaging recovery organisation. Since January 2023, the Green Dot symbol is no longer mandatory in any country.
In the UK, the Green Dot is a trademark but has no other meaning. Whilst it is not mandatory to display the Green Dot on packaging, many businesses have the Green Dot symbol on their packaging so that they do not have to invest in different packaging designs for each market.
If your business is a brand owner of goods sold in the UK which display the Green Dot symbol on the packaging, then you will be required to pay a UK licence fee to use the trademark.
